Bird vortex in eastern South Dakota

We encountered a flock of birds west of Brookings, South Dakota on June 7 that were flying in a rotating column formation a couple hundred feet high. The birds were white on one side, and black on the other - so that the 'bird tornado' changed from black to white in color as they rotated around.

We did see a tornado later that day, maybe the birds were trying to tell us something!

Dan glad it wasn't a total loss ending up so far west of the eventual target, sorry you had to drive to Arlington. It must have been a sign.
