Another Chaser Convention

Well, this has had a better response than I expected. There are a few obstacles we have encountered, the greatest of which is time. To make this work well, we will need a bit of time to plan it out. It's already late August, so realistically the soonest we could consider having anything would be late October to early November. However, if we try to do anything any later than that we are getting into the Holiday season. After that we have January, when the best laid plans can be thwarted by winter weather. Chasercon is in February, and it fills the need during that time frame.

After much discussion and suggestions from many we are very seriously considering having something on November 6 following the National Weather Festival in Norman, OK. It is over by 1-2 PM, so the chaser get together could start soon after that.

The downside is that some of the chasers in the Northern Plains will have a harder time getting to Norman than they would Kansas City. Don't be discouraged, we are discussing having an event next year in a more central location such as Kansas City or Omaha, possibly in September or October.

All input is very welcome. There is no way we can make this work for everyone, but we want to make it accessible to as many as possible. Many chasers were already going to the National Weather Festival so it makes sense to just add to it for now. It takes up a lot of slack in planning, and with our limited time that is most welcome. The football game is an away game, so that will not be an issue.

Again, any suggestions or comments are most welcome. As soon as we have something set in stone, we will post it on Stormtrack.

Any progress on this yet? I've been planning year end stuff and more info would be appreciated!

Jerry, it looks like this will be a next year event. There is the National Weather Festival in Norman the first weekend in November and every other date that we looked at had significant problems as well.

Some of us are tentatively planning on meeting later in the day after the National Weather Festival, which concludes at I think 2PM. They haven't updated the web site yet, it still shows the 2009 information. But I hope to get enough people interested in helping plan a 2011 event and make it a reality.

At this date, I doubt many would be able to change plans that are already in place. A social gathering kinda like what the CO folks do (at restaurant kinda thing) yeah.

Perhaps start with dinner type party this year, and just see who shows, with little to no financial commitment.

I can certainly understand your decision/s. If you're still going to meet somewhere afterwards, I'll make a good attempt at being there.

Eight hours each way is a but excessive for just the "festival."
