A sensationalistic article that is both thought-provoking and filled with some very nice photographs. I think you will enjoy the read.
More than that, the idea of this going off - even if it is a minor blast - could easily disrupt weather patterns that can affect millions across the globe. Not to mention, the local effects to inhabitants of the massively populated region.
What can one expect if this were to have an explosion that was less than the 1883 blast? In it present state, it still has the capacity to vastly skew weather if it were to blow. Remember - that the island in the 1883 explosion occured near the base and ripped the ocean floor upward - generating a very large tsunami. It may not supply the same quantity of ejecta if it were to explode right now -as the original 1883 event- but that certainly doesn't mean that it couldn't sharply and adversely affect the weather for the potential it now has...
