An Appeal for Civility

This goes back to what Jason said: The ignore button is your friend. :)

He should not have to use the ignore button just so he can post in a thread. It is sad some members feel they can't post because of other members coming down on them. I know 3 members who have quit or no longer post at this site because they were tired of people on here just treating others like dirt. Two of them are well known chasers. People should beable to post their oppinion without anyone being hard on them or becoming hostile.

I feel I was wrong to attack certain members on here. Being a christian I feel I was being hatefull and hostile myself. Danny you made me think about my actions. Thankyou for that. To everyone who says I don't chase I would like to add I have chased twice. I was late and missed both storms. They were local chases. I am going to college and can't afford to spend thousunds of dollars to go chasing every year. I want a descent job so I have the money to do things in life I can't do right now.

I also feel there is to much eletism among some of the members here and they feel that gives them a right to say whatever they want to other members. I don't feel this should be. Everyone should be treated as equals. It is sad stormchasing has come down to competition and eletism instead of a fun hobby.

I have found that 99% of the weather sites I have been to have had similar problems and flame wars. Alot of those sites even fight with eachother. I have been to dozens of weather sites. This is why stormtrack is the only weather site I visit anymore. Weather sites have become to hostile and I don't see this ever changing.

Moderators,
I feel this forum has an incredible potential for the Chase/spotter/weather community as a tool for getting information out. I am one of those who has stopped posting on Stormtrack due to the fact that it appears every time someone posts there seams to be members who want to be aggressive and attack in one way or the other. While some speak of free speech and advocate that this should be a completely open forum, I disagree. I feel it is the duty of the moderators to create a friendly, non aggressive forum for us to use in a positive manor.

There are no standards in the Chase community for how to act, that is painfully obvious at times. To be a professional is how you act, not whether you get paid to do what we do. Strive to be a professional and you will gain respect.

There should be a simple basic standard of ethics and morals prevalent on this site. If you can not post without attacking someone or their ideas, then don't post.

Hats off to the moderators for doing what is "right" above doing what is popular. Maybe with a little control this site can once again be a place where we can ALL post something without being fearful of being attacked or put down.

I love the ignore button! It is probably the most underused feature on ST. Seriously, more people should use it. I don't see any posts from non-chasers, porch chasers, mooch chasers or the people that post in a DISC thread "this sucks man I can't chase today I don't have a ride". GAFB. Rah Rah storm chasing is becoming popular blah blah blah more members on here YIPPEE!!! Tempers flare when there is a constant stream of bullcrap posted from non-chasers. There is just no respect anymore. If we even get a discussion going anymore right in between insightful information from Rich T. and Mike U. will be three posts from non-chasers saying "man... dude... I hope I get to see sum kewl clouds". Mods: do something about that. Cut out the noise. Maybe it will keep the rest of us from being at each others throats. It used to be when a skilled chaser or met posted, people shut up and listened. New people: do that, shut up and listen.

Everyone else, again, do what I did. Ignore button- click, click, click. Stupid post about clouds they saw from their porch? Ignore. Someone you don't like? Ignore. Religious police that admittedly don't chase? Ignore. Try it. It works.

Member advocating that members censor other members generous contributions even if only as enthusiastic support? That's a real great contribution to the wx community. Labeling people with a genuine interest in wx/chasing, people who may have very well looked up to you at one point as an inspiration as "non-chasers, porch chasers, mooch chasers", you're right, there is no respect... Funny thing about noobs, EVERYONE INCLUDING YOU WAS ONE IN THE BEGINNING.

Paul,

I think you are missing my point: I simply reiterated things that others have complained about publicly. If a person realizes that someone gets under their skin then instead of making a public spectacle of it just set your profile to ignore said persons posts. It is hard to retort to or complain about what one does not see. Just a humble suggestion to reduce drama and conflict.

I have a better idea... mutual acceptance and respect. If you or anyone devalues someone's porch cloud contribution then what is the point of community? Not everyone has the balls or ability to run down big wx but that does not invalidate a person's enthusiasm. If anything, the button needs to be removed. As to whether a post is dumb is subjective to the reader. If I am obligated to have my name out in the open then you should be obligated to tolerate my dumb contribution as I should be made to tolerate everyone else including you even if we don't agree. This isn't facebook, posts aren't bs apps or mindless games. I feel very strongly about this because all the intolerance as of late is the cancer for why people feel the vibe has changed for the worse. Seems like StormTrack is going the way of society where people are all fired up, opinionated and worst of all, divided.

I guess we will disagree on this. I for one feel Stormtrack is going downhill due to the increase in noise. After all, the name is STORMTRACK.

STORM

TRACK.

I've seen several bbs go through these type of growing pains. Your opinion seems to be the majority; that this is no longer a board about storms and the tracking of said storms but rather a weather board to post about anything weather related. Sadly, it will become less and less about chasing.

Also, it seems you may be completely missing my point about the ignore feature. It is probably the absolute simplest way to decrease the amount of infighting on this board.

I don't think ST is the place to be talking about beer. There are kids here. What is this place coming to! Do you want to be responsible for some kid getting drunk, chasing a tornado and accidentally having his GPS turned upside down....taking a right to get out of the way, but in reality he took a left and drove straight into the thing! (not that left right is anymore confusing than when driving south on there anyway)

Chasing has changed so much. Nothing but intoxicated crazies. Think of the kids that look up to you as super hero chasers. Set an example for them. Now that they read their idol is a drinker, well I'm sure 40 years from now they'll be nothing more than a vodka drinking, Allsups eating pile of goo...lost in some city park, carrying on with this imaginary person how the cap should have broke this one great day back in 2010.

Crap I just realized how much of myself I see in that person! Time to go.

(sarcasm/joking off.....lol how sad it is I feel I have to even say that......slams a beer just so it is clear even!)

1. Rights and responsibilities. The Stormtrack forum is PRIVATELY OWNED. It is not a free-speech zone. Membership is a privilege. Users who wish to participate must adhere to the rules of our system and abide by our standards.

Happened across this posted on the homepage/rules. Interesting.

I don't think this forum has deviated from it's founding premise. To the contrary, it does an excellent job of embracing wx in such a way as to not corrupt the storms component by giving members a designated area to express and discuss their interest. Besides, a deeper interest in weather enables one to truly appreciate and get the most out of their storms experience. Isn't that what the whole exchange is about?

Censor anything or anyone you want, I hope you don't miss a statement that might be of relevance to you or quite possibly a compliment or opportunity. It works both ways you know.

Is that all the bigger the font goes? Everyone should post using 7. Then when we come to read accounts later in life it'll be that much easier.
