Well, I wouldn't be surprised if the rep at the Alltel store was mistaken. Often times details with mergers, etc, don't quite trickle down properly. In my case, I was about to re-up my contract with Verizon for new phone anyways, so going into a contract w/ Alltel wasn't a big concern.
At worst, the tethering cost will be jacked up to match the Verizon tethering cost ($59/mo?), and maybe a cap will be imposed... but it wouldn't be any better or worse than all the other options out there.
We'll just have to wait and see. If Verizon wants to compete well against the other providers, they'd be wise to keep the lower-cost tethering option and extend it to their original, non-Alltel customers.
