7/31/2009 REPORTS: TX/CO/KS/NE/MN

The metroplex had a bit of a surprise yesterday evening when a line of strong thunderstorms arrived. I was not expecting any organized convection as the outflow boundaries and the stationary front were down in the Waco vicinity, but a good line of storms organized and made their way northward, redeveloping along the previous outflow. I headed out to the highest point in southern Dallas county and set up a tripod and let it record. I got some good lightning shots and the storm was definitely electrified. Once it arrived it dropped a good two to three inch's of rain in a short amount of time and caused some flash flooding in the usual trouble spots. Here are some shaky stills taken from video of the lightning.

More photo's along with the video are available at www.texasstormchasers.com, or a direct link here.

Overall, It was nice to chase again, even if it was only 2 miles from home.

MN strong storms

Nice little bowing segment came out of SD. Got on it near Milan, MN and played leapfrog with the shelf all the way across the state to just outside of the Minneapolis metro. Hey, it's 2009 and we are down over 10 thunderstorm days this season up here. I'll take it.

More images and video can be found HERE and HERE

I got chased home yesterday evening by this shelf cloud between Stratford and Gruver, TX. All this rain recently has left the Panhandles very green. It sure doesn't look like or feel like July around here.

JULY 31, 2009 CHASE LOG HERE

I got blown pretty good yesterday in southwest Kansas.. by storms... pervs... ended up chasing the junk coming out of southeast Colorado and followed to Garden City before wrapping up for the night.

I would later get raped after running a stop sign in the wee hours of the morning (I truthfully never saw it), so it was quite the venture.

Didn't collect a lot of imagery on the chase, but I did post about a 2 minute video clip on the site, so it's a quick look at the highpoints of the day! I estimate the winds in my video to approach the 70mph area as they were rocking the van pretty good for a time (hence the getting blown, pervs - haha). The rains made for zero visibility, thus pulled off in a lot with some trees that showed off the storm pretty well.
