Starting a NOW thread...

A nice boundary is clearly visible headed southeast in NE right now via Hastings 88D. Appears to be along a line from Red Cloud, NE to Nelson, up toward Geneva, NE. A nice tongue of CAPE is headed up into SW IA, SE Nebraska. Nice agitated edge to the clouds from DSM, back to SE Nebraska on visible.

The OAX 18Z sounding looks quite capped yet though, as does the TOP sounding.

Could be a wildcard back to the west looking at the LBF 17Z sounding.

The low seems to be moving along, so I think initiation is going to be close to the river and I'd probably want to set up on the East side of it, but somewhere near Nebraska City, NE. But, considering the cap, further west with some upslope enhancement might be a solid play.

I am currently sitting in southwest IA at HWY 2/59 jct. The RUC continues to try and develop storms right on the NE/IA/MO border, however has pushed timing of development later into the evening....the first sign of a cap bust? Right now I don't see any agitated cu.

I think you're in the right location, Greg - just give it a few more hours. 700 mb temperatures continue to cool and CIN should be removed by 00z in your area. Veering surface winds will be troublesome for low level rotation in updrafts, however.

G-11 is in RSO in a NE/KS/IA sector for those interested.

Good day all,

Cumulus trying to go up here, although flattened at their tops (dark bases though). I am right along convergence / boundary off I-80 in Avoca at truck-stop.

In Oakland, IA under a nice band of cumulus with some vertical growth, finally. The boundary along I80 is looking like a good place to be right now. If a storm can ride that then there is a chance at a tornado.

Original plan was to head to Iowa from North Platte in the AM. Went east 50 miles, then headed back west after looking over data. Cap seemed to be too stout further east. Saw VORTEX2 on the road as we were heading back west. Glad to see our current area is now discussed in a MD. Off to t-warned storm to our north. Good luck to all.

W.

Yeah, TOR warning in parts of Hooker and Thomas counties in NE. Looks like the V2 team is there. Abut to update live on TWC...Cell looks decent on GR3.

Good (capped) evening...

Still sitting in Avoca, Iowa at truck stop on Hwy 59 and I-80.

Cu goes up, tries, then flattens out. I do not see cap breaking anytime soon ;-(

Meanwhile colder temps aloft west near Central / W Nebraska producing elevated supercell just west of North Platte.

Will this energy help tomorrows setup in Iowa?

We are sitting in the town of Marrysville. Cap wins this one. I though it had a chance of going, but I see no indication of it breaking except for the cu field just west of the missouri border and that puts the river in youor way.
We are calling it a day. What else could go wrong this season. At least we got out and gave the equipment another test run before some better chases next week.

CAP BUST!!!!

AARRRGGHH...

Watched storms try to fire today in Southwestern, IA.. We all know how well that went! I was really hoping things would go when I saw H7 temps drop from 22z-23z, but no cigar. Also, RUC showed every run all day a storm developing in SW IA.... Oh well..

Heading for Omaha to grab dinner... Chasing Tommorow!!

Severe-warned thunderstorms between RSL and Larned, KS. Some rotation W of Hoisington.

Jay Cazel at severestudios is on the Hoisington storm with considerable lightning and what looks like at least a funnel (hard to tell). 8:51pm.
