The day started out like the day prior. Just a 2% tornado threat in a big state with lack of road networks in areas that are relatively flat and treeless. They were able to get some amazing photos out in southern Montana yesterday and there will be more pics posted soon. Data is an issue in Montana as many of you may already know. This particular photo posted created much debate in another forum as to what it actually is. I will post it in another thread for discussion. As a team we were able to get alot of great structure and fulfill alot of photography that was on the "to do" list. Not sure if anyone else was able to chase that day, but if so please share your photos and chase experience.

I have seen a feature similar to the one pictured here. The feature occurred on 5-29-2004 on the Beloit-Belleville Supercell. The feature formed on the periphery of the main meso and ended up spawning a satellite funnel/tornado. Can't really tell from this pic if this one formed on the edge of a well developed meso or not, but those are my thoughts FWIW
.

Here is a little more background for the above photo. We were chasing a supercell North of Big Timber, MT, yesterday (6/30) afternoon. It developed a well defined shelf cloud, so we repositioned several miles closer. The wall cloud/shelf cloud disorganized, then produced rotating scud directly overhead. Looking slightly north the "cloud swirl" structure developed and stayed in place for several minutes.

The photo was taken by Annette on her iPhone while I was shooting on the RED. The scene was not as dark or blue as the photo shows. Here is a little more color corrected version:

I hope to post something from the RED camera eventually.

Here is a (iphone) photo of the shelf cloud/wall cloud before we repositioned:
