• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

I just about blew the chase/day. Wasn't expecting any chasing today. Went south of town towards Kenard just a couple miles to watch it. Was just severe warned then for hail and winds to 60mph. I wasn't home when I left for the "chase" so had to go to my apt and grab my stuff. Ended up forgetting the cell phone, and my camera bag was missing my camera! Ug. It was still out from downloading images from it last night. But had my vid cam with.

Sat there watching it, with a huge hill blocking the sw part of it. I could just barely tell it was more sfc based down there. I thought, hmmm, guess I better try and chase the best part. I fly over to 133 and fly south, and see a beast of a storm heading towards Omaha. I had turned the radio back on and the guy said something about what 80-90mph winds could do. I was like, why is he talking about those kind of winds. This was before I got a good look at it. Then he says the warning and winds over 90mph. Anyway, it was way way more sfc based on that southern end than what I'd been watching. It was round, about the size of a supercell really. I pulled into a residential area in nw Omaha since I had no more time to get further south. I wanted to be a hair more into Omaha, to be right ahead of the bowing part, but there was too much traffic(this was at 5pm/rush hour) and no time. I wound up under the north side of that "supercell" part(wasn't a supercell, but that portion looked close to one....that part turned into that soon to be apex of the bow). There was sweet forward motion in that thing as it hit. Sirens were blaring, and I began wondering, if it did manage a tornado...I'd just be completely screwed in there. I kept taking streets trying to find a good view, and was soon lost in there, laptop/gps not even on yet.

Found an ok spot, then shot it hitting. People are funny. Sirens blaring, this nasty nasty storm moving overhead...and they're just out there getting their mail, not even really looking up. Then a family walks on the east side of a house to get a look. I was thinking, LOL, that's bad timing. It first hit right as they were getting around the corner to look at it. So they go scurrying back around to the front.

I am bad at judging wind speeds. I don't know what they were there. 80 mph is probably what it was. Someone west of there reported a 3 minute 80 mph average just now on the news with it.

Lots of damage starting to come in now. 120,000 without power in Omaha area(sounds like the most there since 1997 Oct snowstorm). Boats on houses west Omaha or west of Omaha. Probably just leaning on them or something. Quest Center roof peeled back. Trailer park in bad shape in Council Bluffs. Roof off the Elkhorn school I think it was? There was some art thing in the old mill area down town...that area looks like a mess on the news. Tents with the art all over. Sounds like a lot weren't taking it all that serious. You'd think they would after the night a month ago with the tornado.

Will post a video at some point.

Breaking news: Some of the swimmers in the Quest Center for the Olympic trials are said to have gotten wet after the roof damage.

I had last night off, all day was pretty much post card perfect for bright and sunny day. HWO for SC/SE Kansas was nil to min that day but I checked GRL2 around 10pm. Glad I did as your Nebraska storms were also moving over Kansas. I wished it was daylight out as I could tell from the inside cloud lightning this was a beauty. I was right on the edge for nearly 4 hours the entire night.

I drove from Rose Hill southeast following the storm out of the county it was too dimly lit or just too far off to get any descent photos but this thing was throwing down some solid cg lightning. Roads sucked as it was hard to keep a good east track on with out loosing the storm. I stopped by Gordon and took some photos out there. Visually there was a lot of low dragging clouds I'd have to sit there and watch just to make sure it wasn't a tornado. I have to check my photos maybe I have some good "falses" in there. So I let that section go and I headed to the north side of Butler county by town of Whitewater and waited for the next section to arrive from the west. GRL3 was showing a explosion in the storm size starting a hard push south(RAP IR loop)

Reported winds averages around 60mph with one gust in south west Wichita at 89mph with 6" limbs down. I was only getting about 37mph where I was at. I had some pea sized hail mixed in with the rain. Speaking of rain that thing was coming down in buckets. Plus the rain was steaming off the roads creating a mix of fog in the low lying areas making it near impossible to drive. I seen a few cars pulled off the road with hazards on. (maybe that was because I forgot to turn my bar off at the time) WX stations report 1.6" as of right now but I think it was more.

Although it was a fun and interesting night it yielded very little for my cameras. Here's the only good shot I got out of the batch so far.

My home in Springfield, NE was on the western edge of the bow, I drove 1 mi east to the town water tower and looked east while the REACT spotter was looking west(!)

Saw a 2 min. gustnado about 2 mi. east of my location, circulation started from the ground and made it halfway to the cloud base. All the fields are planted--no bare fields--and with all the rain, it takes some doing to cause a debris cloud, but there it was. I just had seconds before the rain obscured my view.

Total distance: 5 miles. :p

LOTS and LOTS of damge, from Hwy 36 then south to Maple, not alot of damage from maple in NE, so thats the width, power lines down, trees snapped, roof taken off house ( mobile home double wide ) red cross was out, grain bins bent in, laying on the road at a point, farmers are sad ( lots of crops destroyed.. the fresh grown corn ) houses battered with hail dents, the most eye catching for the early part was at Stans Trash Service near Valley NE, there was tin wrapped around the trees but a 2x4 slammed straight into radiator and all.. needless to say im excited but feel bad at the same time for the people affected. Im glad i stayed north, i was online chatting when i glanced out the window and said hello!

I sat in Bennington for a bit then rolled north on 138th and Dutch Hall Rd then jumped south fast on Hwy 36 then east made it to 72nd and Hwy 36, i didnt like the fact sirens were blaring, reports of 80mph winds and golfball sized hail , i was like in oh crap... so i parked on the side of the gast station and let it all roll in. here's the 2x4 and tin damage from Stans Trash Service.)

Also to note ( Hwy 36 just a few miles west towards Hwy 275 ( Semi was blown on top of a car ) road was blocked so couldnt go any way to see it )

I intercepted the storms after work (gear less) just south of Fremont, where the most extreme damage occurred, the wind rivaled that of what I experienced in the Glen Elder RFD, guesstimate would be 90+mph. The damage was extremely immense for straight line winds, power lines snapped, barns torn apart, roofs ripped off, the damage rivaled what I have seen as rated weak EF-2 damage. The hail was thick and covered the ground, wind driven casued drifts of hail at least 2 feet large. My camera less “chase" quickly turned into a assistance mission as my Grandmas house took a direct hit, trees had her house closed off, the nearest you could park was about 1.5 miles from her house, not too many shingles left, windows broken out. There was one barn that has stood for probably 100 years that was completely demolished. I rode the winds out just S of Fremont about 3 miles SSW of Woodcliff where the strongest damage occurred, the damage path then crossed the Platte River near and Just to the North of Leshara, then moving near and the worst just north and North West of Valley. The corn in the area is just toast, this area had some of the best crops of the area, just another blow to an already suffering market. I had to again suffer and strong storm without equipment to again remind me to never leave home with out the gear during June/July in NE.

Initially hadn't even planned on chasing today, but finished up at MPX and headed out. Caught up with a neat storm near Olivia as it moved to the SE. This one wasn't SVR warned but still looked neat.

I love how the sun played around with this one...

These next pictures were near Blomkest, which is just south of Willmar, MN with a great sunset.

and another as the storm showed some strengthening and a bit of rotation as it started moving it Southeast and was warned for hail as a core descended.

A tad dark but I was going for the mean and menacing look here.

For not even planning on chasing, it was one of the more fun ones of the year as it's been so quiet in Minnesota so far...

Planned on heading west towards Paynesville or Glenwood, MN to the boundary but a few discreet cells popped in Stearns county up ahead of the main line so played leap frog until the line caught up and everything merged. Was on a cell in Benton county which went torn warned but this is what it looked like:

Some more thoughts on this storm are on MY BLOG.

Went out and played around after dark with a cell which briefly went severe near Hutchinson, MN.

Cell formed North of Enid, OK about 40 miles, heading SE 15... Shot over east to catch it... It totally took a direct south turn, and I totally drove 60 miles out of the way... where I could have just went North of town. Got there 8 minutes after perfect flying eagle structure... using my mobile phone for a radar picture.... Still a few nice pictures...
