There was a rather nice looking storm cell about 10 miles south of my home in Attica with a good looking updraft and visible hail shaft.

I don't believe that's a hail shaft... No hail was reported from that storm, and it doesn't appear any different than the precip shield on the right.
 
Of course no report doesn't mean that it didn't happen, but given the setup of the day (no hail) and no reports of hail, it seems harder to conclude that it IS a hail shaft. And if he's looking south, the precip is west of the hail.

obvisously I cannot be sure wether or not it was infact an area of hail, or just an odd perspective of the storm relative to the sun since I did not drive through it. Although from what Ive seen before with areas of hail in thunderstorms; the areas of precip where it appears to be white have turned out to be hail. Possible that it wasent hail?--- yes. Possible that it was?--- you betcha.
