6/21/09 FCST: MO, IA, IL

Sitting in Ft. Dodge applebees with my girlfriend, watching stuff go up south of us. Will be relocating to Webster City shortly.

... and they're getting chewed up and spit out. Looks like another ANOTHER ANOTHER cap bust for Iowa. Man, I hate this state!

Not much for patience, Darrin?

For real, it's 3:30 dude. Give it time. The best instability isn't even there yet. If things aren't happening by 23z or so, then I'll worry.

Edit: Tornado watch issued. Patience, patience, patience.

Nice bubble of-2C at 500MB over IA lol. Warm storms day. Can see the tower tops nw of Ames, wondering which will end up the player. Might take a bit to get going, get things to cool down up stairs some. About gag on this moisture, upper 70 to lower 80 dews.

Edit: Btw, that highway west of Strattford was detoured the other day when I was over here. Turned me south before I could go east to Strattford, so I said screw it and went back and north to Ft Dodge.

Darrin, help me out here...The RUC2 shows no capping over W Iowa. CAPE is at/about 2k. A line of small storms have fired up along the IA/NE border. Tail-end Charlie of this front is presently SE of Sioux City IA and moving E/NE. Maybe moving farther W and N from your current pos would help? Two cents...

Probably a lifting problem, although the 700mb temps on the RUC2 show 10+ degrees C, which is too hot considering the scant lift we have here. I think you're right, though - moving west and north may be the best option for now.

Stuff getting chewed up right on liftoff is reminding me too much of Thursday, when my usually deep well of patience got dried out after staying on the boundary 'till 3 AM.

Thursday had 700 temps of closer to 15C, too. I'm going to bet that the Greene/Webster County stuff may be the better play. Starting to take the shape, and those surface winds are a helluva lot better. Come on, 850 streak!

My complaint about them is the wispy "smoke machine" effect on the tops right now. The edges have that applesauceish feel to them, and stuff keeps getting holes in it and burning off. Hoping it will get better here in a bit. :D

May wanna start a NOW thread.

That one is going to go right over a state park in a few minutes, so to those offroading, good luck :) Headed to SR175; on SR17 attm heading south from Webster City.

Haat Advisory for SW IA is adversely affecting the storm potential at this time. Two more hours and it should change drasitically - either way...

CAPE values and t/d in nw IA are pretty high. The t/d in/around KDMX are very high. Between KDMX and KDSD -however- wind shear seems to be unidirectional. The 20z RUC2 hasmoved the warm front farther N on the W side of IA. If the cold front should push in thru W IA abruptly, things will escalate rapidly.

Observations...
