6/20/08 NOW: CO/KS/NE/WY

Initiation is currently taking place across eastern Colorado and western Kansas. All of east central/southeastern Colorado and the majority of western Kansas is blue boxed until 6 p.m. CDT/7 p.m. MDT. Currently a set of nasty twin supercells is raking western Cheyenne County Colorado, where two tornadic warned cells, both with healthy couplets and 75+ dbz cores producing baseball size hail, are currently crossing I-70 in the Flagler/Arriba area attm. Additional supercells are forming just north and south of Colby, KS and are severe warned.

With the short wave trough approaching from Wyoming I suspect the storms in Weld county and the panhandle of NE will continue to strengthen over the next hour or so. The two cells NE of Greeley CO appear to have the best chance with surface winds presently coming out the SSE at 6 mph. Hail of 1.75" is currently being reported with the western most cell.

Pretty much went as expected (see my previous post) - cells merged and the one that is left is now tornado warned just west of Fort Morgan. The hail is being reported at 3.5" and the core of the storm is returning 75 dbz on GRL3.

It appears Limon is going to take a direct hit from the supercell that has held together for the last couple of hours that began up by Greeley. June 6, 1990 seems like yesterday to me....
