6/18/09: NOW IA

Warning text is starting to indicate a high-end damaging wind threat with the storms in WI. Winds in excess of hurricane-force are possible. Appears the line will begin propagating southward along the instability axis. Seems the northern suburbs of Chicago will eventually be in the cross-hairs.

A new MCS seems likely to materialize in Iowa affecting northern IL toward dawn.

I was just heading back from work in Quincy, IL. Could see the lightning from a few of these storms all the way down there. These are some monsters....Chicago could be in trouble over the next 24 hours.

Nice kink in the bow near Janesville, WI. Currently tornado warned, it appears to be the same embedded HP supercell that has been tripping tornado warnings much of the night. Relative velocity shows the outflow boundary surging southward now, especially near Milwaukee and Kenosha. I wonder if this thing is going to ride down the lakeshore.

Tornado warning for Racine/Kenosha now as well.

Isolated cell going up near Ellsworth, IA.

Well, in an atmosphere yielding the parameters we have now, the fact that I positioned myself perfectly after driving 100 miles to meet this storm gives me the right to give the following accurate report on said storm: IOWA STINKS. DON'T CHASE HERE.
