6/17/2010 REPORTS: ND/MN/IA

Although they pale in comparison to the amazing videos and photographs of the Bricelyn/Kiester tornado posted by our colleagues above, here are three links to video of the same storm that I took as it moved further to the northeast and into Freeborn and Steele counties.

The first segment looks southeast at the tornado from my location on MN 109 just north of Alden, MN. As best I can tell, the tornado is probably near Armstrong at this point and is close to crossing Interstate 90.

I took the second segment while moving north on Interstate 35. The view is to the northwest, and the tornado is just north of Clarks Grove, MN.

The final segment shows the tornado just after it entered Steele county just east of Ellendale. I'm on MN 30 here, east of I-35, and looking to the NE.

Not sure if this was lightning or a power flash. I assume it was the latter.

I've posted a more complete chase log on our site, which includes some of the mesoscale graphics when the event in N IA and S MN unfolded, along with some links to edited AVI quality video from last Thursday's event in Minnesota.

Amazing day, witnessed 6-8 tornadoes, with numerous satellites and vorticies near the Wadena, MN area on 2 different supercells...each producing an EF-4 tornado. Unfortunately, one hit the town of Wadena. Dave Demko reported this tornado via spotter network, while Reed Timmer dialed 911 a ridiculous four times before they sounded the sirens in Wadena...by that time, there was only approximately 2 minutes of lead time for the residents to take cover. The sirens were sounding for the first tornadic supercell which passed to the west of the town, but not the second. Nice lead time by the NWS, but poor execution by whoever is supposed to sound the sirens. Thankfully, no one was killed, to my knowledge.
