That is pretty sweet. You can clearly see one meso occluding and another wrapping up in the same spot. Great vid.

Good Stuff! I remember that day. I was still a county north when I got a call saying there was like a 2 mile wide tornado on the ground... I suppose whoever reported that was behind a hill or something and thought the whole meso was the tornado. I got to the storm just in time for it to fall apart.

June 12, 2005 tubes

Andrea,

At the time I shot the video, the storm had just ended it's tornadic period, as far as I could see. The storm produced at least one and perhaps more tornadoes between Jayton and Hamlin.

June 12th was a big tornado day. I'm not sure how many tornadoes occurred, but I'd bet there were more than a dozen significant tubes. We intercepted the storms after several tornadoes had already occurred, but we did see a few. Take a look at the photos:

Several chasers were on the storms earlier, and saw multiple tubes of all shapes and sizes, including large wedge tornadoes.

I'm planning to post another video within a week or two that shows three of the tornadoes, including the one that the Tornado Intercept Vehicle drove into, for their first successful tornado intercept. The video includes audio of the communications between the TIV and the DOW. The comms are interesting to listen to, including the excitement of the TIV crew when they made their successful intercept.

Thanks Sam, yes I remember june 12 was an incredible day...Maybe, all the supercells I saw along the dryline on the radar were well isolated and producing at least a tornado: impressive velocity couplets. Too bad I was already come back home.

Very interesting stuff about the audio of the communications: hope to hear those soon.

Very interesting video. It would be wonderful if it could be broken down with frame grabs or a text overlay, explaining what is happening during the course of the video. This looks like a situation where a newbie chaser could have trouble understanding what they are seeing and could be a great training tool.

These situations are hard to visualize looking at static photos on a page, or using the classic supercell illustrations in the textbooks.
