6/12/08 REPORTS: KS/MO/IA/WI/IL/OK

As I sat down after work and viewed the tor warned cells coming up from MO I pondered taking a short ride to the QCA plotting an intercept. I thought I would take a chance and see if they would hold together by time I reached themso I headed west on I80. I ended up crossing the river but then adjusted back to South Moline at John Deere road/I74 intercection. It was not long after that the cell went tornado warned again west of Taylor Ridge which was a few miles SW of where I was located. If you know the area it does not have good views in any direction , so I sat on the cloverleaf and watched it approach. Excited as the sirens blared and numerous CGs hit nearby, I could not see any area underneath the wall cloud and soon retreated east. I followed the storm to west of Geneseo,IL where I gave up as the cell died. A half tank of fuel later it was the first non-distance chase this year.

Due to work obligations yesterday, I chose to stick close to home. I caught up with the storms as they came through Wyandotte County, KS and Clay County, MO. Around 830PM, I was at the KC Downtown Airport facing west, and observed several lowerings with intermittent power flashes.

I will get the video uploaded later, for now here's a few photos:

Photographed some lightning from the 2nd tornado warned cell that rolled through last night as sirens were going off. I passed if off since radar returns weren't showing anything very impressive. As I packed up to head home as I saw rain shafts progressing my way, I saw something very interesting to my south. But, unfortunately couldn't get my camera on it. I know someone who works for the volunteer fire department and she said there was a confirmed tornado approximately 1 mile to my south, but SPC reports showed no such thing. Oh well. Still a great night for lightning.
