Second Chance Storm Chasers Event
On Saturday, April 24 2010, at the Second chance saferoom manufacturing facility in Catoosa, OK, a metal fabricated tornado that will stand over 55' high will be erected.
The tornado itself is about 35 feet tall and will set atop the roof at approx 20 feet high. It is also powered by a large electric motor that will cause it to rotate. I am told that the owner, Eddy Michels, has spent approx 50k on this project and wants this event to continue on a yearly basis. He would like this to be an event where families and kids can come out and meet weather enthusists like ourselves. He is blocking off about a half block area that he will reserve for any chasers to bring their vehicle so that the general public can look and mingle.
There will be free food and drinks and at approx 2 pm the mayor of Catoosa will flip the switch to unveil the massive tornado.
If anyone chased the '93 tornado that devistated alot of Catoosa, come share your experience and if you have video, bring it. If you just want free food, come on. It would be well worth the trip just to see this awesome art unveiled.
As soon as I find out the official starting time I will post it here and if I can sneek some photos I will also post them.
If nothing else this would be a great way to meet some other chasers around NE Oklahoma.

If I'm not chasing (at this point it looks unlikely) I might show up with some video and the truck. The Catoosa tornado was my first tornado experience and what got me into weather.

55' tall....I say GO BIG or GO HOME....

Just kidding of course.....Can't wait to see the first pictures posted here.

Catoosa is my home town, I don't know why my family didn't alert me to this. I won't attend as we are ramping up for V2 again. This was my first tornado back when I was a tiny little meteorologist! It had a big impact on me becoming a meteorologist. The tornado passed about 1000 meters south of our house. There was debris falling from the sky, we had baseball sized hail and some minor wind damage. I guess I will have to go take a look whenever I make it back, seems pretty wacky!

I'll most likey be attending this as well. I don't remember this tornado very well as I was just about to turn 6 at the time but I remember it well enough that I know it was this storm that originally got me interested in meteorology.

Update......For all who would like to attend there will be signs on rt 66 to guide you to the event. The actual address is 100 s Shawnee and it is in the older part of downtown. Giveaways include a stormchase and an above ground saferoom which I understand is valued at around 5k. Start time is around noon and will last until 4 with the unveiling if the tornado to happen around 2.
For all who would like to attend and display your vehicle either pm me or email me and I will reserve you a spot.
This is shaping up to be a fun event and I really look forward to meeting some of you all and seeing your vehicles.
I did get to see the semi-final product and it is very impressive. I was not allowed to take any pics to post though, sorry.

I will most likely be attending because i live so close to the area and i cant turn down free food!
