Moderators, this is Tim's wife (Shannon Key) posting with Tim's account per his request. I'm doing my best to adhere to the rules but am not very familiar with them, so please adjust the topic title/forum as needed and thanks in advance for the help and lenience. I am in a hotel room with our son, having left Norman around 2pm to avoid this outbreak, and we are exhausted.
The wedge that tracked just east of Norman today went through our neighborhood. Tim evacuated with about 2 minutes to spare. We live 1 mile north of Highway 9. As he looked north after crossing Highway 9, he saw the debris cloud heading into our neighborhood. So we knew the neighborhood had been hit, but we didn't know the fate of our house until about an hour ago. Tim just now reached me via his cell phone from our house, which thankfully is intact. However, the house next door was partially destroyed and neighbors were trapped inside, and the house next to that was destroyed completely. He said it was at least EF-3 damage. He had to cut many large limbs and trees with a saw to make his way back to our house, and it took him hours to get there because of all the downed power lines, debris, and road blocks. From our mailbox, you can now see through what was dense woods all the way to the destroyed Country Boy store about 3/4 miles away.
We lost some chickens, our hot tub cover, some shingles, and have other minor damage and lots of debris in the yard, but are otherwise unscathed. We feel extremely lucky.
Tim will be offline for a while because our power is out and he has a lot of work to do to clean up. I can relay messages and if needed. He asks that the moderators please hold the fort here until he's back online, and thanks you in advance.
Too close for comfort!
