3/30/07 NOW: TX / OK / KS

Virtually at Brownwood now. It looks like the end of the line is becoming discrete cells east of SJT and around Voss. They're entering somewhat better conditions as they move east and the magic hours aren't quite here yet. Good road options, so I'll virtually hang here awhile to see what develops.

21:45 -- Virtually on the road toward Brady. Storms are building southwest.

22:00 -- Feature of Interest virtually (via radar) observed approx. 10 mi. WNW of my location. Probable gust-out. Continuing southwest down the line toward Brady.

22:10 -- On second thought, radar shows structure on this storm and end of line is stalling. Turned back around toward Brownwood.

22:25 -- Feature of Interest approx. at Trickam, SW of Brownwood.

22:45 -- FOI is lining out. Heading back toward Brady.

23:10 -- Running virtually west on TX765 toward Fife for last chicken scratch FOI. Will follow Salt Gap vic. cell to dark. Game over. Thanks Tim and Stormtrack!

This is the biggest piece of junk "storm" ever... We're sitting about 4mi northwest of Decatur off Hwy 287 in heavy rain. No lightning. No wind. There was no gust front, despite being on the tip of the "bow echo". My estimate is that the max winds have been 20mph maybe. I have yet to see a lightning strike or hear a rumble of thunder in the past 15 minutes. The rain is quite impressive, but, given the depth and magnitude of the moisture, this shouldn't be too surprising. The very high boundary layer RH and moist midlevels may be precluding the development of cold pools, which may be inhibiting much in the way of strong winds near the sfc. (shrug)

FC = Funnel Cloud
+FC = Tornado

FC is the present weather group for funnel cloud/tornado/waterspout. While +FC should be used for a tornado/waterspout, the weather observer augmented the observation with the remark "TORNADO", and its location and movement, instead of using "FUNNEL CLOUD". This would indicate the observer witnessed a tornado.

Not sure where to put this, but Iowa seems to be producing... a "mini-sup" or landspout type situation along an advancing boundary:

MULTIPLE FUNNELS HAVE BEEN REPORTED ACROSS WESTERN PORTIONS OF
CHEROKEE COUNTY. IT IS VERY LIKELY THAT THESE FUNNELS HAVE OR WILL
BRIEFLY TOUCH THE GROUND.

Expect this to be limited at this point but am monitoring. Worthy to note this is north of the northen extent of the SPC slight... pretty cool.

This has prompted tor warnings for Cherokee county in IA.. did not want to start a NOW for IA due to such an isolated incident but mods feel free to move if warranted.

I was driving around norman as that storm came through. A few gusts of wind and maybe pea size hail. That was interesting though to open the door of my car and hear sirens.

Tornado warning issued on the storm near Nevada, Missouri. Looks like it has split in the last few sweeps and is taking a bit of a right turn from the split. Can't imagine it holding out for long, but would almost make a run for it if it were closer to Butler -

The cell east of Del Rio TX has no warning but a small hook like feuture and the velocity radar shows rotation in both mid and low levels. (greens+reds on velocity) Anyone think this will go tornado warned soon?

Evan Stubbart is in Hico TX attm, and says he's not really even seeing lightning, though the line is just off to the W.

*edit Evan's pretty much headed for home now. Saw a probable w/c N of Hico, some pea-hail, and some lightning (finally).

The storm that is now about to impact San Antonio was dropping copious 3 inch hail out in the INFLOW area. I was watching a large wall cloud coming over the hill just south of Camp Wood earlier when it started. Long story short, I have major damage to my chase vehicle. I'll be staying either in San Antonio or Austin to get the windshield replaced in the morning so I can see to drive back home.
