Though yesterday was largely a non-event day, I still came away with some good shots. 50 degree dews and the Texas Panhandle tend to go well together. I left Amarillo at 3:30 and took I-40 east. Most chasers targeted SW OK region yesterday. After watching the surface obs and some short term models (HRRR and RAP), I picked the Canadian to Woodward area. Some of the towers yesterday were some of the most robust I have ever seen for March, but most would start having base issues soon after they went up.
The first storm I got on near Canadian actually had a strong southerly inflow, but you could see the base just shrinking up. It had fairly good structure. Here is a short timelapse of that storm.
I traveled east into OK on 33 toward Crawford catching a nice "whale's mouth" as a storm turned outflow. As sunset approached, the storm I had been on previously had died and came back to life still SE of Canadian. I quickly backtracked down 33 catching these images along the way. It spit out a couple anvil CG nearly striking an OK trooper pulling over a semi. Of course the CG stop when I get the camera setup. It was interesting though as it seemed this storm to the west of the storm with the "whale's mouth" was sitting on the outflow boundary that was causing the whale's mouth. Storm motion was SE at about 5 mph. Just the speed I like. Only saw 1 chaser all day and the was Val Castor sitting near the state line.
