I am guessing that when all is tallied up, this will be one of the costlier hail events of all time - not sure whether it will challenge the 2001 record, also from the STL area, but this hit a lot of populated areas with 2-inch and larger hail, baseballs or larger in several areas, and thousands of cars have been trashed. A lot of damage to roofs and siding, too. From one news report, maybe close to 1000 rental cars sustained some degree of damage in the area around Lambert Airport. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
