Tornado(s) apparently moved through the northern side of the St. Louis metro a short time ago. One was apparently sighted from the tower at Lambert Airport, KMOV reports structural damage at the airport on its twitter feed but unclear whether it was tornado or straight-line winds.

From all the damage reports I am hearing and having seen the impressive signature that was on the radar, I seriously doubt that the main damage was caused by straight line winds.

TWC is reporting extensive damage to Concourse C at Lambert Field, roof blown off, and injuries.

I live 10 minutes from Lambert airport and someone inside the tower reported seeing the tornado. Planes are surrounded by debris, windows are shattered, 2x4 went through at least one car, cars were thrown around. Actually, you're probably correct...I had my mental geography confused on the dozens of tiny suburbs that make up St. Louis County and was thinking that the tornado would have missed Lambert. Tornado damage was reported in St. Ann, which is just W/SW of the airport, and the Lambert tower reported a tornado on the ground in Ferguson, which is just to the E, so it likely did pass over the airport grounds in between.

My mother-in-law lives in Hazelwood, MO close to I-270. She states the media is saying Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is closed.

Lambert INTL is now closed per the FAA site, it is saying because of tornado damage
