2011-04-16 NOW: NC, SC, VA, GA

Looks like towns of Shine and Contentnea are in grave danger ATM with impressive shear marker and hook passing right over them. Kind of disturbing to watch live TV in the region and witness their inexperience with this kind of outbreak.... spending too much critical time doing live reports and interviews about "trees" down instead of focusing on multiple impressive radar signatures as they move over populated areas.

W.

I was literally yelling at my laptop as I watched WRAL spend several minutes at a time focused on still shots of damage while parts of their viewing area were still under the gun. I have family in Goldsboro, and the sirens were starting while WRAL spent time encouraging people to send in photos of damage.

Tornado passed over my brother's home on Maywood near South Saunders in Raleigh. Some minor damage to the house, front is debris caked. Large tree down in the backyard and some of their smaller trees are *missing*!

Tornado Signature with a index of #9 about to pass close to Dover, crossing I 43 & I 17 and then onwards through Washington.

Goodness, storm reports page shows 78 tornado reports from the Carolinas today with 4 fatalities. Few basements and no sirens in this part of the country, the SPC's high risk and PDS watch was definitely verified today.

Edit: that Tor-warned cell in the Tidewater of Virginia is looking nasty. Moving directly toward a large metro area; the area of Norfolk-Chesapeake-Virginia Beach-Portsmouth-Newport News-Hampton, etc. has roughly 2 million population.

Tornado on the ground south of Jacksonville. Confirmed by spotter on the ground, signature looks to be another long-tracking range like so many of today's.

The tornado warning's expired, the couplet's weakened quite a bit, and no damage has been reported yet. Let's hope it stays that way. Watching the live feed from WTKR right now.

Having been in that exact situation (June 8, 1974; April 26, 1991) where there is a major tornado striking the major city as well as other cities in the viewing area, I thought WRAL did a spectacular job. Please understand they are adlibbing for hours --- the stress is incredible.

100 Tornado Reports from the NWS. The greatest one of concern is this to me:
2300 ASKEWVILLE , NC *** 14 FATAL *** NUMEROUS TREES DOWN. NUMEROUS HOMES DAMAGED. NWS STORM SURVEY WILL BE CONDUCTED SUNDAY MORNING.
Talk/reports of damage seems to suggest something that is above EF3.

Total fatalities according to the NWS list at this stage is 24, very dark day for NC. (All reported fatalities have been in NC).
