Here are a few video frames from this morning in Hickory, North Carolina. Ice accumulations ranged from 1/4" to 1/2" in some spots around town and just to the east. Hickory had the most ice of the places I saw today. Driving north on I-77, the icing dropped off to just a trace of a glazing by the WV/VA border. Most roads were OK and did not freeze. Bridges iced over before dawn but were more slushy than hard ice, not as slick.
Saw lots of small trees and small branches down, but only a few large fallen trees/limbs. No power lines were down that I saw, but most were sagging from the weight. Accidents were few and far between, relatively speaking. I only saw a couple dozen skid marks going off the road into the ditch from NC into WV and only two actual accidents still not cleaned up. Remarkable for this type of event.
