11L: Hurricane Kyle

Hmmm....I figured I would post here, rather than starting a brand new Kyle post...but it looks like the "rare" Maine coast hit may occur with Kyle....even though the main threat this weekend up here in New England will be rain with potential for up to 6-9 inches of rain from SW Maine to central Massachusetts.

To be honest, I am looking forward to this one since I am spending the weekend on the Maine coast and am hoping to catch some good pics/video of the surf from the combination of 94-L and the approach of Kyle.

Could this be the next Juan?

Exactly my thoughts. Juan was much better organized before it accelerated north, but if Kyle can get itself together over the next 18h or so, it has a slight chance to attain the strength of Juan at landfall in southwest Nova Scotia (per current forecast track.)

Juan made landfall near Halifax around 03Z on 9.29.3. The latest NHC forecast track (26/03z) has Kyle making landfall on the Nova Scotia coast... almost exactly 5 years to the hour after Juan.

Actually Tim, it looks like I'm not far enough east. Am staying in Portland and most of the wind will stay over Washington County and more likely over Nova Scotia/New Brunswick. Long range radar out of Portland/Gray, ME is picking up the center of Kyle pretty well.

It'll be interesting to hear how high the water gets in the Bay of Fundy. I just checked the height and time of high tide at Hopewell Cape NB, and it was something like +12 meters at 0020 ADT - right about when Kyle is coming into NB. So far the only news I've seen on the CBC web site has to do with trees coming down around Yarmouth. Just seeing the Bay of Fundy at "normal" high and low tide is fascinating.

I do like Environment Canada's use of "post-tropical" rather than "extratropical."
