07/08/2009 NOW: KS/ND/SD

Anderson County and possibly Franklin KS has taken some serious damage.

See a live chopper feed here: http://www.kmbc.com/video/19993651/index.html

The chopper just showed a farm nearly destroyed with a silo laying over East of Garnett.

I was on this storm and intercepted near Garnett where I was blasted with strong wind gusts along 169 highway and noticed a lot of dust being kicked up along the gust front. I could see the rain curtains screaming my way as it was almost on top of me and barely got south in time to avoid those winds. On my way back, I counted at least 20 powerlines down along 169 just NE of the 169/59 junction for at least a mile (if not 2). Large trees were snapped, and I saw crops in a nearby field completely flattened. It looked like an intense microburst to me.

probably should add SD to this thread. very favorable environment just east of UDX

storms to the immediate south and west.

The storm to the SW of Rapid City had an interesting donut hole feature in the reflectivity a few scans ago along with a decent couplet...

Storm moving into SD has a definitive lowering on Gabrielson and Polley's chase cams. A storm that actually looks tornadic up there! Nice meso on the storm too so I would think that the lowering is rotating.

I wish radar would go as far north as the border in ND. From the sounds of the reports there is at least one large tornado on the ground. Any good links to Canadian radars?

North Dakota is really gearing up tonight, also. Nice looking cells to the west of my current location at Minot, ND, and law enforcement reported a tornado 58 miles to my northwest on the ND/SK border.

Absolutely awesome looking tornado warned cell southeast of Kadoka, SD. Very nice couplet and intense core! It would be interesting to see a tornado at night in the Badlands if there is one.

Storm in Bennett/Todd/Mellette/Jackson Co. SD showing about 83 kts gate-to-gate on 0.5 BV right now. It had a 78 dBz gate on it, too, on the last scan.
