Some strong cells moving towards Minniapolis right now that were showing large hail and wind signatures. A tornado watch issued east of these storms. SPC has alot of states in the risk with a 5% chance of a tornado in southern MN and northern IA and surrounding areas. Nothing to get excited about but a few tornadoes are possible.

Not realy hearing much about a cap but temps will be in the upper 80's to low 90's across the area so I would guess there is a cap. How strong is it? Dew points should atleast be in the 60's by later today for the northern plains. Moisture looks good.

Thoughts? Anyone chasing?

Swelling cumulus are now popping up all over central Iowa. Things could get active later today in this area.

Now

Just past through a quick shower east of Mason City, cumulus clouds dotting the ske and very wam and humid. Temps are in the mid 80s and depoints are in the upper 60s to lower 70s, Im headed to southern MN. :D

About to head up I-29 to se SD, ne NE. Appears it won't be long till something goest near/east of Yankton. God I love that area and trying to decide which side of the river to be on and when. Hopefully it is clear before I get there, though probably won't matter/be worth it anyway.

That cell that seems to be along the low just NW of St Cloud, MN, seems to be the strongest storm of the day right now. Recent analysis from GR2Analyst had MEHS reaching 2.8" before a rapid decrease in VILD near Sauk Center, MN. Seems to be gaining some supercellular characteristics as well; definite updraft/downdraft area on the southern edge of the cell. Probably the storm to watch for now unless other strong storms can form and get rooted along the MN/IA border.

4000 cape on spc mesoanaylsis page and a lovely 45 knot max at 500mb nosing in from the west, towards se SD, ne NE....now if only there were better cu around here. Baking in N. Sioux City.

Must be a landspout-fest out in Eastern Colorado! Spotters are now saying a large tornado is on the ground 6 miles north of Siebert.

Just talked to the in-laws who live south of Stratton along the Kit Carson/Cheyenne county border in CO, they report two tornadoes just west of Stratton. One was a rope, the other one described as "large".

From what I could gather from the radar imagery the storms looked more like mini-supercells if anything. My guess would have been a few landspouts along those colliding boundaries. I am anxious to see the video of this 'large' landspout tornado...

A mess of storms in Colorado right now, including one of the strangest tornado warnings I've seen in quite some time along I-70 around Limon for storms which are in the process of forming along a pronounced boundary draped over the area. West of Denver, severe-warned cells with up to golfball hail are ongoing. Casino visitors in Clear Creek County may be getting pelted.

I'm currently sitting at the Wheat Ridge Wal-Mart along I-70 just north of 32nd awaiting one of these storms to drift its way into the metro area so I can get under the thing! So far, most activity has remained west of the Hogback and adjacent points.

Interesting satellite loop in nw IA of what must be a very thick rapidly forming area of accass. Can now see towers finally bubbling up north of this outflow boundary. Too bad I left N. Sioux and am now north of Dixon NE.

Edit: Yep, thick accas as I can see them just east of me.

Any reasons why the last two chases I had up here Sioux Falls has radar issues?

In IA

SevereStudios Chase team is live in the field. Kory Hartman and Jay Buchholz are in vehicle number one. Kenny Allen, Landon Rae, and Denice Pelster are in Keloland's "Dorothy" Chase vehicle. We are both sitting north of Sanborn, IA. AMAZING TOWERING CUMULUS -- trying to become supercells. Outflow boundry is very evident on radar. We can see some strong updraft in these cells. More to come soon. Live chase cam online. (We are afraid this thing may go linear). Any nowcast support is welcome tonight. 605-270-0955

We can see the cumulus hitting the cap and fanning out right now. We are hoping this cap will weaken between now and sundown.

We will try to update later.

Supercell forming

A new supercell is forming near Archer, IA. We are underneath the cell, and a possible wall cloud is trying to form. We have the feed up and going. These cells are really starting to bubble up everywhere around us. We are hoping this cap will continue to erode through 9 PM CDT. More updates later.
