Ultimately decided not to chase the SPC risk area as the front had surged south and upper levels were just noncooperative south into TX. Much as I would have loved to see a repeat surprise similar to 5/31, there really wasn't much expectation. My target throughout the day remained fairly constant for the KS/NE borders. Once convection formed NW of Sidney, NE, I bought on Ogallala.

Heading north out of KGLD after lunch, I ended up taking a road I hadn't meant to target and lucked out.

A beautiful gustnado formed 2 miles S of Wallace, NE. Large arcus with intense undercut outflow (gorgeous green turquoise) created a very long horizontal funnel that then touched down in a field with a persistent dust sworl. Actually was quite picturesque. Duration was about 5 mins long (uncharacteristically long, actually).

Visually, the outflow appeared to be in an area of very narrow dewpoint depressions and hodographs earlier in the day favored low level shear. This led to a surprisingly pretty gust front and a surprise for the day.

The red dust, white arcus, green field, and turquoise sky made for a wonderful experience. My photos just don't do it justice...

I had the chance to chase a storm that formed on the cold front down in TX. I was stuck all day at work and didn't get out until 6:00pm. A few isolated cells formed just over Guthrie and I headed out to chase. My storms were going to pass through Crowell, TX. I reached Crowell at 7:30 and was greeted with some nice structure. In addition there was a nice CG show. Lots of good pics today. Will have a chase report on my blog soon.

Thanks.

-Ben

I was just spending a nice day at home and noticed a couple cells fired just to the west of the metroplex. I decided to drive a couple blocks over and grab some CG shots.

The storms were a disorganized mess but at least they were electric. Had to pack it up since the rain (and lightning) were inching ever so close.
