Currently on I-57 in Iroquois County, IL. Initial target is Champaign. Judging by ILX radar and current trends, I think the I-72 corridor will be the hot spot for action this evening, with discrete convection in development and likely boundaries remaining from this morning's MCS.

Best of luck to all out there today.

Given the Petersburg area storm's presentation, wouldn't be surprised to learn that it has a tornado. It's heading right for Greenview Illinois.

classic flying eagle in Pike Co IL, very nice...
NWS mentions storm spotters reporting wall cloud with strong rotation

NWS chatroom: tornado ON THE GROUND near Springfield, IL

Radar image showing impressive reflectivity hook echo and strong rotation too.. VIL is 81 so very large hail is likely falling too !

Current racing towards Springfield IL with Jeremy and Josh Ludin. Very impressive supercell right over Springfield currently. Don't know if we'll be able to catch that one or not, but there's a few more nice tornado warned supercells to the west of that one. Our main concern at this point is daylight. Still about 2 1/2 hours left. Got a late start as usual. Should have taken today off lol.

Springfield cell is a bit more disorganized at the moment. Cell west of that a good bit near Winchester has produced a tornado and is a bit more organized looking. (although it's starting to get messier too)

I hear that about taking off..the cell to the west looks like it may be being overtaken by the line behind it..still showing good circ. but its not going to be discrete for long it looks like..Springfield cell still showing huge hail core..

Just north of Springfield now. The Springfield cell looks to be crapping out a bit. Nice cell to the west, but as Jim pointed out it may get overtaken soon by the impending squall line. We're going to try for that one anyway. Going to get south of Springfield and probably cut west. Running out of daylight dammit! :(

My chase buddy Rich Thies and his son Ryan got a fairly decent stove-pipe tornado to the west of I-55 at fairly close range near Auburn (Sangamon Co. IL).
