How many think that the name Ike will be retired after the destruction it caused on the U.S.?:confused::confused:

Yes I am dead serious. This was the 4th natural disaster to hit the U.S. (stat from Jerry Rivers on Geraldo Live). I happen to be in Galveston during landfall and it was very bad but much worse a bit east of Galveston.

Retiring Ike

Interesting that this post has arisen as I have had this question in my mind the past few days.

My thought is that since so massive an area and so many people were affected - and displaced by Ike, that this would be a good argument for retiring Ike.

Of course only the NHC has the trump card.

Ike should be retired

Wasnt Allison retired and it wasnt even a hurricane? Ike should be retired and the media isnt giving this enough credit. Partly because the whole economy situation but Ike will be as coslty or nearly as costly as Katrina. A strong Hurricane making a direct hit on the 4th largest city in the U.S. in todays world....high dollar technology and years of houses built in this area under some false feelings of security. I kept hearing everyone say....we didnt get flooded by Aliesha so we will stick this one out....alot of theose places flooded and most wish they had left. Still close to a million without power in Houston area.
It may not have been the strongest cane but it was large and a kill shot to Galveston.....IMO no doubt it should be retired. Also IMO its not getting the credit it deserves....cat 2 but a surge more like a cat 4 in some places. Not to mention there was some pretty widepsread reports of 100 mph winds sustained and gusts to 126?
Because Galveston isnt sitting in a bowl of its own waste like New Orleans did and its not as visual and the media isnt all over it...its getting downplayed. FEMA is also doing a crap job with this as well.....I still say we should turn over FEMA operations to the Red Cross...we may have to after paying for all these rich bankers homes and pools.

Considering the widespread level of damage and significant level Ike achieved as a hurricane, I'm sure the WMO will retire the name. No chance of them running out of names any time soon.
