.
All,
There are credible reports from the field,
confirmed by developer and headquarters engineers,
that the implementation of ORDA has uncovered a
defect in the way radar data are rendered. There
is an apparent error of 0.5 (one half) degree
counterclockwise when viewed on D2D. This applies
to all AWIPS radial-based products: Z, V, SRM,
DHR, OHP, THP, STP, DSP, ULR, DVL, EET, CLR, and CFC.
All other (non-radial-based) products display properly.
.
The impact of this error is that all features are
actually 0.5 degree further clockwise than they show.
At long ranges from the radar, this effect is magnified;
and views from adjacent radars will effectively double
the error, so the truth is somewhere between the two.
At 100 miles from the radar, the error is less than 1
mile. Closer in, the error is very small
(directly proportional). You can see the magnitude
of this error by overlaying CZ with a base reflectivity
product and toggling between them.
.
The AWIPS DR Team has this issue in hand, and will
recommend the appropriate course of action, including
whether an emergency release is in order. In the mean
time, you should be aware of this discrepancy and take
this into account.
