• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

In the coming moderator popular election (and all subsequent ones), which election system should we use?

* Closed election - count totals are NOT shown, who voted for whom is NOT shown. An open election would tend to produce a popularity rank, and qualified people who have some insecurity about this might not run for the position.

* Partially open results - count totals ARE shown, who voted for whom is NOT shown.

* Open election - count totals ARE shown, who voted for whom IS shown. This provides the most transparency but makes people hesitant to be seen supporting a particular person.

Feel free to discuss. We won't necessarily adopt the most popular one but this will give us an idea where preferences lie.

I voted Closed, for the record. If I want to disclose what I voted for, than I will say, as I have here, but I don't always want to say, especially for electing and type of leadership.

I could even go with partial open results, but then it's a door for contention when only one or two votes separate the winner. We certainly saw the extreme of that in past presidential elections.

Because after hearing the justifications given by SEIU, I really thought it was a bad idea. Open elections are opening up for retaliations and even jeopardize friendships...nah...not my way of doing it.

I also agree that "closed" is the fair way to handle the votes. I would go as far as to not allow posts within the thread in which the vote is taken so as not to have people launching campaigns on behalf of others. Let it be a TRUE popular vote based on a nominee's credibility up until the time of the vote.

I voted "open" because I didn't read the post. Yes, like the idiot in class that raises his hand to answer a question that hasn't been completely asked yet, causing him to look like a jackass.

I'll change it to "closed" after reading what Tim V wrote... and the reasoning given by Jason and Steve.

Very interesting. If we did a closed election, perhaps we can show the results but anonymize the candidate names as a series of code numbers (kind of like in college when your test scores are posted with student ID #, or god forbid your SSN). After the election, any candidate who was curious could be told what their code number was so they can see how they ranked.

I'm for total closure. Visible tallies can have an influence that sways some votes. Like everyone, I'll be curious how things are going, but I can live until the winners are announced if doing so could enhance the quality of the election. Don't see the point of the anonymous numbers, since it really isn't communicating much other than how many members are voting, and that some unknown candidates are ahead.

I like that idea as well, so individual candidates can see how they stacked up (if they wish).

I do like this idea as well, I know if I were a contender at the end of the day I would like to know what I got as far as the number of votes.

I'll follow whatever the majority vote is on this one. I'm not political in any sense, so IMO having it open would be the most entertaining. I tend to shy away from anonymity, especially on internet forums where people are so quick to back or disown an individual in a heated thread.

I know it's everyone's right to privacy, but I say "put your money where your mouth is" and own up to your choices on here.

I chose open, closed audit just because it would be nice to see some rankings. I think giving this info to the candidates in a closed system is also a good idea, and would definitely go along with that.

I went with closed so voters aren't swayed by what everyone else thinks. I would be okay with the next option as well, but definitely not totally open.

Closed- Let's face it: When poll time is almost up and it shows one person up by 10, 11 different people may be swayed not to vote thinking it's over. We can argue all day long that it's their fault for not going ahead and voting, but it happens. I vote closed.
