I'm all for live cam coverage. The more the better. In fact I think that it would be splendid if storm watching attained the same notoriety as, say pro football games during pro season.
It would be splendid if contests could be had of the best storm action plays during chase season, then aired in a nationally televised telethon sponsored by some major corporations. This would be equivilant to the "superbowl of supercell events".
The more money made, the better.. The superbowl winner(s) could get several thousand of miles of free gasoline vouchers so that a major expense of their next chase season would be sweetly and deservedly taken care of.
Major newspapers and news feeds across the nation could carry winning video stills of the contestants, plus interviews of top rated camera men and women.
Perhaps there would need to be some qualifications made in advance to make sure that the film submitters were truly "pros". This would include zero blocking throughways to get the action, zero running red lights, etc. as well as basic storm spotter training and at least basic knowledge of meteorology.
I have found an amazing fascination in severe weather among the average public now. I think this is good, and for me this is a powerful healing.
We have come a long ways from the early 60's when I was teased ruthlessly in grade school for my interest in weather, and the 70's when I felt ashamed to tell my acquaintences that I was a storm chaser.
In my public school teaching and subbing experience, I find storms to carry the same fascination for students that dinosaurs have always carried.
Let's capitalize on all this interest!
