I'm wanting to start studying older storms and systems that have produced significant tornadoes. Is there a place to go to see what model data/actual data ppl had to look at leading up to the event?

Thanks

locust.mmm.ucar.edu is a great place to get satellite imagery, radar imagery, surface observations, upper-air maps and more for just about any event over the last 15 or so years.

You can try this site (http://vortex.plymouth.edu/u-make.html) for older cases, although the availability of products may be limited. The graphics are also not so nice.

As far as old model data, you can obtain old NAM, GFS, RUC, and RAP data from the NCDC NOMADS server (nomads.ncdc.noaa.gov). You'll need to have some understanding of the individual models to really be able to do much with the data there, though. Also, you will have to obtain the raw data files and make plots on your own. It's been a gold mine for >>this graduate student<<, but if you're not so computer inclined or studious, you will probably find that site over your head.
