Hi guys! I just wanted to announce we are hard at work on version 2.0 of our app for iOS. We are going to try to implement as many of the feature requests we’ve had as possible. There will also be some new and exciting…first-of-a-kind data options coming as well. These options will be of MAJOR use for the chasing community.

For Android users, we hope to eventually get an update out. The problem is, we’re not seeing a great reception to the app on Android. This really surprised us considering the Android version is priced cheaper and has to this point a bit more functionality than iOS.

Also…we are again offering the app for just 99 cents for a limited time on Android and iOS. This will be the last sale before 2.0 arrives (time TBA) and probably the last sale for a long time after 2.0 arrives. Thanks to everyone on here on Stormtrack who have supported us and given us great feedback. Please spread the word if you can. The more apps we can sell in this sale, the more we’ll be able to do with added features on version 2.0.

Thanks!

John

No cost to upgrade? HRRR isn't available unless you pay an extra $1.99. HPC and soundings will cost you another $.99 each. It's not much money, but I can't stand when apps "update" only to charge you more for the upgraded features. Plenty of apps like Radarscope introduce major feature updates without charging extra.

We've added a lot of new models and features 100% free. We are not a mass appeal app like RadarScope. Our audience is much more limited and specialized. The average public needs a radar app, but not a model app. However, our development costs are every bit as high as RadarScope. That means we must recoup development expenses by having some premium features as in-app purchases. The HRRR Interface is like having another app within WeatherGeek Pro and was quite expensive to code. I doubt we will even make the investment back by only charging $1.99 for it. There are over 70 parameters and different regions. The cost for our app is on par with RadarScope when you purchase all the features (actually a little lower). I think this is very fair. Plus, with the in-app purchases, you only pay for what you need. Don’t care about maps for Europe? Don’t buy that interface.

I’m a meteorologist much like others on this board and not some huge software company. I thought it would be cool to have a model app. I don’t program myself (not since Fortran anyway), but instead hire developers to build the app to our specs. I’ve put out a lot of my own money to make this app and hope we’ll just break even in the end. We also let our users guide the features of the app and we have reinvested 100% of profit on version 1 into the development of version 2. I know people don’t like in-app purchases. I don’t either. But in this case, we had to do it. We hope people will continue to support us. If so, we will continue to be able to make the app better and better. My thanks to everyone here who has supported us since we started this journey over 18 months ago, especially Rob who has been really helpful.

We do have a video of the new version available here if you want to check things out:

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

John
