• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Chris,

Thank you. I can't believe that made it through the checking and checking and checking and checking. We'll correct it in the next printing and I am hopeful the book will go to more than one printing.

Glad you like the book.

The NWC appearance (for any who don't know) will be September 7, time TBA. I will be doing Miracle at Greensburg and signing books.

Thanks again,
Mike

Hey Mike, no problem. Sometimes those big Michigan cities get all mixed up after a while.

I have been asked, twice, this week what the "umbrella" symbols are in the text of Warnings. They point to the book "extras" (the equivalent of DVD extras). They are explained right before the Introduction. There is a special web site with videos related to the content of the book, many never before seen.

Take a look and let me know what you think.

STAY SAFE CHASING TODAY!

I've already received four Father's Day orders for autographed books and I am very appreciative.

I wanted to let you know that my WeatherData schedule has changed and I will not be in town the 15th through the 18th (the week before Father's Day). So, I will not be able get last minute orders out in time for pre-Father's Day delivery.

If you would like an autographed copy of the book to give to your Dad, please order now. The address is above. By the way, we are happy to ship directly to your Dad, just let us know to do so. We'll even enclose a note telling who the book is from in addition to the autograph.

Thank you!!!!

First Canadian Review

Here is the first review of Warnings from Canada. I've been blown away at the favorable critical response -- better than I had hoped or expected.

I think the book is starting to have the intended effect: More respect for our field.

Books for New Orleans

We've decided to make a donation of Warnings to the New Orleans libraries which say they still need books in the wake of Katrina. The details are here: http://meteorologicalmusings.blogspot.com/2010/08/our-modest-effort-to-help-new-orleans.html

I am going to count any sales we make during my presentation at the National Weather Center September 7th (3:30pm) toward the total.

Also, I forgot to post the URL of the Canadian review. Sorry. It is here: http://nightreader-blog.blogspot.com/2010/08/warnings-true-story-of-how-science.html

I just got my copy yesterday from Amazon. I did try about 4 bookstores this summer (in two states) to pick up a copy in store 2 were non chain 2 were. Anyway, maybe your distributor needs a little guidance maybe not.

Andy,

Thanks. Many of the Borders and B&N's (along with independents in Wichita, KC, Omaha, etc.) are carrying it. The book buyers for these stores seem to perceive it as a "tornado book." There are a few others (such as in D.C. where it is selling well) carrying it outside the tornado belt. However, the publishing industry is having many problems these days and they don't stock as many books as they used to.

So, getting one of these stores to in, say, Portland, is tough...at least at this point.

Thank you so much for buying it. Let me know what you think!

Mike

I'm such a slow reader. I've read through about half the book and enjoying it. Very interesting history of Mike's career and life with a bit added in to get a decent view of the history of storm warnings and severe weather culture in the 1950 on up. The book is pretty much chronological, and I'm up to the late 70s in my reading. Looking forward to the second half

I picked up the book when Mike was here in DC/Maryland giving a presentation at the DC chapter of the American Meteorological Society (which I streamed live). It was a pleasure to watch the presentation and meet Mike in person and chat for a little bit.
