Walking into a tornado?????

What a freakin retard..... LOL, that suit is nothing more than an off the shelf set of motorcycle leathers. Its a two piece at that. I road race and sell suits that are much better than what his was wearing, by no means is that suit going to protect him from anything a tornado will produce. All the padding does is protect you from is minor to moderate force impacts, like the distance from the bike you crash and the ground. The leather takes the road rash for you. You get hit with anything bigger than a nintendo Wii in a tornado, your done, lol. Hell, that might even do you in depending on where you get hit.

Somebody get me this guys number, I've got a ton of stuff I can sell him.....

So, for the sake of argument. . . flak jacket? something that military would use against shrapnel? Interceptor?

I called up and spoke to Steve, a few days ago (I saw his number in an article from a link from Steve's own website). He seemed like a nice guy to me. He does have health issues, and having been a nurse in yesteryear, I offered him some holistic advice. He's already into holistic health, and is doing the best he can to conquer his health issues, including Lyme Disease, etc.

I'm thinking that since Reed Timmer was his meteorologist, when Steve drove a TIV (Tornado-Intercept-Vehicle)-like vehicle into a tornado once, that (even though Reed himself sometimes takes chances), that Steve must be an OK guy!

I used to have dreams of being pulled into a tornado, and lifted way up. Somehow, I always survived in my dreams.

I hope Steve is careful, and that if he does walk into a tornado, with his meteorological stuff attached to him, that he survives!

I bet that when pilots first flew their planes into the eyes of hurricanes, that they were also thought to be nuts.

Anyway, he seems to want to go where no human has gone before (shades of Star-Trek), and I hope he survives. He seems like an interesting guy--definitely worth speaking to. I'm glad I saw this thread, as it piqued my curiosity. :)

I like his website. In the "picture" the tornado looks like the one from Wizard-of-Oz movie, you know, made from a muslin tube. Also.... we all know that there is a big difference between walking into a late summer, weak eastern Colorado landspout and a late spring drill bit tornado in mid Kansas.

"A late spring "drill-bit" tornado"??

I can't help but think that as soon as whoever gets him into position, pulls away to get a safe distance from the tornado, he is going to start second guessing himself after it's to late to abort. I keep getting this picture into my head of his running away from a tornado, arms waving and screaming.........and it makes me smile every time.

The last I knew, Steve Green was diagnosed with cancer and this was prior to him coming out announcing he was going to do this. I haven't heard one way or another if he ever beat the cancer, but if not and he knows he the cancer will eventually kill him perhaps he just decided he wanted to take a risk that would potentially cause him to leave this earth in his own, extreme way. Just a thought anyways.

I do wish someone would pick up where Sterling Colgate left off. Not that I am a fan of Bernard Vonnegut, but just to fly some instrumentation. Perhaps balloon borne cameras...

actually the view of a tornado from a short distance away is far more interesting than the view inside it, as footage shot from the TIV and Dominator demonstrates

It would be nice to see damage take place from above however, but the camera would have to rotate--either that or the image fixed in post if a lens is used similar to those that capture meteors passing overhead.

As crazy as it sounds, I think it could be done. I remember people said the same about driving intentionally into one before Casey/Timmer.

What you have to do is be selective as to which tornado you walk into. Obviously not a 300mph monster with house size debris but why not a 100mph with little debris at all in a field? For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iR3AL1-jRQI go to 1:45 and watch the tornado.

I think it would be doable in that context. Yes it's risky but it could be done, probably with no impact resistant suit at all. Just not sure what you would get out of it beyond the thrill or publicity, which is more than enough reason for some.

Maybe a weak waterspout that reaches a muddy shore to keep sand and debris down.Just lay down as the outer section moves, then walk along its path in the very middle. Nuts, yes, but you would look like a wizard to folks outside. He who walks with the whirlwind. Then too, on TV today was a little teenaged girl who was blown back just trying to shut the car door

In terms of tornado intercept, put some rams on this:

Just the thing to push those troublesome yahoos off the road.
