Walgreen's will display warnings on their billboards

I saw this the other day when we were heading down to the beach to check on our house after Gustav and were under a tornado warning. Good job !!

That is pretty awesome of them. The website said they operate stores in 49 states...which state is excluded? I know all of the ones near my house have these signs, and some of them are so bright they annoy me, so people will definitely be able to see them.

Pretty cool idea if they can keep things current and not keep old bulletins up mixed in with their NyQuil sale. Tornado warning...better go buy those Depends which are on sale now for a low low Walgreens price of $9.99. If you are in the path of this large and dangerous tornado, you may need 'em....

I found that info at http://news.walgreens.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=1044 ... looks like the only state not on there is Alaska.

This is definitely a cool idea. I'm not sure how many folks in my area would react to them, at least now without more education of the public that that is a place to look for that kind of information, but, still pretty cool.

The Walgreen's here had the flood warning that was in effect and had the time it was issued and the time it expired. Which in this case the warning did not expire for a couple of days but it had both the date and time. My stepson works for walgreen's and said when tornado warnings are issued the board will flash the warning till the warning is cancelled.

It's something I developed a service tailored for... It will route weather warnings to a location / sign / event / etc. based on their lat/long of a set of points. Easy to use for the remote sites, nothing fancy.

Thats very cool of them. I know around here the only way a warning gets to the people is by watching tv/listening to the radio. If your not doing one of the two you could be screwed.

I wonder how detailed the warnings will be. I see it says it will tap into NOAA's data feed every 5 minutes, so I'd think it might be verbatim with what the weather radio broadcast says (exact location, direction of movement, speed, what the storm has a history of doing, etc.).

Regardless, it is a very original and useful service Walgreens will be providing!

Nope.

Here's what it said a few days ago, at stores 10+ miles from the nearest river, when one of our rivers was in flood:

* FLOOD WARNING *
9/14 7AM
UNTIL
9/21 7AM

That is cool. I kind of think the digital billboards should do something like that. Maybe even broadcast one of the local news stations when doing radar. Except with that if I wasn't able to chase I would wreck while driving down the road trying to watch it.

Good for them, that is awesome. Great idea by Walgreen's to warn the public when some of them wouldn't even know a warning is occurring if they don't have their NOAA weather radio on them.

That's great for Walgreen's but i wonder how many people are going to blame an accident cause they were reading the sign and slammed in back of someone when their is a tornado warning/severe weather warning happening? Then your going to have fire fighters and police and ambulances out helping the accident victims then people are really more hurt the a minor fender bender in this possible tornado or micro burst or straight line wind event or a meso vortexes event! Yes warning the public is good. But if they don't take cover during a tornado when the sirens are sounding then its their own damn fault for not taking cover!

Just my 2 cents!
