Video of Hailstorm with Tornado, May 23

I came across this on YouTube. Don't recall seeing any previous link to it here on Stormtrack.

There's quite a lot going on in this video. The immense wedge in the background looks pretty threatening, but to my thinking, the most fascinating part is the hail hitting the lake in the foreground. The guy in the golf cart had every reason to boogie out of there!

Yeah, this is the Windsor, CO tornado of May 22. This was shot by a hockey player I believe who was golfing. Lucky day to golf, eh...

Here's the video from the KUSA news crew that happened to be up in the area shooting an unrelated story. The only way you would've caught this tornado was to have been there by chance. Completely unexpected:

I was amazed to see as I surfed through the videos that most people were regarding this storm as simply "just a hailstorm" and many weren't aware of the unfolding situation til moments before hand. Obviously this storm is rare for Colorado and took NWS and media officials completely by surprise. Not to mention storm chasers as myself and a large handful of others were crusing east on I-70 to Kansas about this time. Those few chasers that were back in Colorado didn't get to the tornado in time.

It was very fortunate that the fatality rate with this tornado wasn't higher considering the rarity of this event combined with the very early time of day.

My mistake--thanks for the correction. You'd think I'd have gotten the date right, because I sure remember the 22nd. Watching the video of that tornado on TV at the Super 8 in Hays was one heck of an inauguration for the rest of the day.
