USB Hub

What do people use for a USB hub? I have tried to use one in the past, just to keep one item to plug in the USB, but the computer didn't like it. Sometimes items would work and sometimes they wont. Now I have a different computer and I am short on USB slot. Yesterday I got the blue screen of death 3 times on my computer until I disconnected the hub.

I have also had issues with using USB hubs of various manufacture. The computer usually sees the devices as new and separate when they are plugged into the hub, requiring Windows to re-install the drivers - even though the drivers are already installed from using the devices plugged in straight to the laptop. Some devices won't work at all in the hub. I have yet to figure out a solution, however I have had better luck with keeping low-bandwidth devices on the hubs (GPS, WxWorx, etc) while plugging high-bandwidth devices straight into the laptop ports (camera, aircard).

I use the D Link DUB-H7 usb hub. Works like a champ and have only had a few issues trying to get the usb modem, gps puck, and two HD webcams to work right all together.

The hub I am using is a belkin powered hub. I disconnected all but the gps and it still crashed the computer. When I removed the hub, the computer ran fine.

I dont know the brand but it was a cheapy from Walmart. I went to a powered hub and it solved my issues.

I've been having a heck of a time with my USB hub this past few weeks. Not sure if it is my air card that is killing it and my computer or if it's something else with the USB hub. I've lost GPS multiple times and there is no rhyme or reason why it goes away. I've been having an absolute technology meltdown, but I used a USB hub all last season without an issue. I've bought a new USB hub thinking that it was my problem, but that didn't seem to help. Hopefully getting my cradlepoint working again so I can just plug my air card into that will have a positive effect.

Charles what solution(s) did you come up with? I've got 4 USB ports, and a mouse, easy cap, GPS, air card to stay plugged in all the time and then an external drive and camera to possibly plug in. A USB hub seemed like the answer to my problem, but now it seems like it's the cause of all my problems.

Yeah, make sure you get one with a power adapter if it has more than 4 ports (most fo them do). I bought this one a year or so ago, and have had no issues with it. I would even run it constantly while at home and not chasing.
