• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Behind The Weather Channel Interruption

We now have an explanation for what happened at The Weather Channel Monday night/Tuesday morning, from this internal memo sent to TVNewser:

By now, most of you are aware that both TWCN and TWCi experienced a major interruption of service last evening and this morning. Here's what happened: around 10:45PM, a mechanical failure caused water to short out critical electrical components within our Atlanta building (300 Interstate North Parkway). The electrical outage forced us to implement a disaster recovery plan that, fortunately, we had in place as a result of a lot of hard work and smart planning on the part of our IT, Engineering, Production, Facilities and other teams. During the overnight period, we had a combination of a looping regional graphic product (similar to DBS locals) and long form on-air. Weather.com was operational, but had no weather data populating the conditions and forecasts. At 4AM, we began production of a simplified TWCN broadcast from our Earth Station. Through the next several hours, our weather systems came up one by one, and by 10AM, we were broadcasting from our primary studios and TWCi products were functioning. Our STARs became operational through the morning and early afternoon. There were many people who worked through the night to regain our ability to operate. My natural inclination would be to identify each person individually, however, the list is very long. If you were one of these people, YOU ARE DEEPLY APPRECIATED. It is yet another example of the level of commitment, caring and professionalism of our organization. It is nothing short of amazing from my perspective. Please accept our gratitude for a job well done. We also need to thank several external vendors/partners: our electricians (Inglett and Stubbs) who did heroic work restoring our power, our security team (Allied Barton), our food service partner (Sodexho), Liebert Corporation, ALC and Ascent Media. Please join me in thanking everyone for their heroic work!

Next on Storm Stories, Lead Forecaster from TWC causes a Flood of destruction with a spilled cup of water. Millions affected all over the USA, As Technical Crews cleaned up the flood 12 volt arc's lit the Atlanta area sky as people literally went into panic. Will the weather channel flood survivors ever recover? Only time will tell.

lol, I wonder how much damage (money wise) the water caused. Sucks for them. heh
