A breaking story on legacy media is being reported that the president will "break up" the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. This will likely send shock waves through many climate and weather research NSF grant-funded programs in universities across the U.S. and the world. Please see the details in the NBC story below:

Trump administration plans to break up largest federal climate research center

NCAR is to weather and climate research what the IRS is to tax collection...a "Holy Grail." One would think that at least the former would be sacrosanct from an out-of-control Executive branch and spared from the administration's Cabinet and loyalists. But apparently not so, when any Congressional pushback is drowned out and falls "on deaf ears." So sad...

This was a predictable outcome of Project 2025, which threatened to break up NOAA, and in general dismantle government piece by piece. I posted about it on this forum before the election. I don't think enough voters took the threats seriously. I hope they do now moving forward.

Here is a good article from NPR just published today (12/19/2025) about "push back" over the Trump administration's plans to dismantle NCAR. It is ironic that NPR would publish such good information about NCAR's plight, considering that NPR was also under the hatchet of the DOGE earlier in the year. Please see the link below:
