An experiment, TWPICE, will be taking place in Darwin, Australia during the next Southern Hemisphere summer. The objective of the experiment is to "examine convective cloud systems from its initial stages through to the decaying and thin high level cirrus and measure its impact on the environment". Darwin's climate is directed by the Australian monsoon (summer being the "wet season" and winter being the "dry season") and during the summer, Darwin sees convection nearly every day and has some of the highest amounts of lightning strikes around the world occuring in the area.
