Well I tried out my new sprint sierra aircard 595u sunday. The chase was a bust as the the action shifted into OK, but the aircard worked like a charm. Granted I confined my web searches to metropolises like Mineral Wells and Burnet, still I could not find a single spot on the 281 corridor where it did not work at full speed. It was amazing how much information I suddenly had at my fingertips, especially for someone used to pulling slooooooooooooow downloads from an analog cell phone through a cellflex card. Talk about graduating from an abicus, stone tools, and the big crayons!

sprint card

Hey Paul.....congrats on your sprint card.......We use the here at News 9 in OKC not only to recieve data....but to transmit streaming video back...its really fast...25-30 frames per second plus....it really helps to have a wilson external antenna on top of your rig.....I still find dead spots...but they are fewer by the week.

Yes, the next step is to add an antenna, and possibly an amplifier. The mobile Bandwith speeds are incredible. Its actually faster than my cable service broadband at home. I am planning on cancelling my home broadband service.

Antenna and Amp of choice....

Paul...

I have tested both the Wilson and Maximum Signal Antenna and the Maximum Signal line blows away the Wilson line for both antennas and amps. I use mine all over Oklahoma and elsewhere and when the Wilson wouldnt connect and showed 0 bars we plugged the Maximum Signal in and it went to 3 bars.

Check his stuff out, he is also cheaper on prices than Wilson.

You can purchase direct here:

I also just received a sierra 959u aircard. I have already tested it out and I'm pretty excited. I would like to purchase an antenna from maximumsignal, so what antenna would go well with this aircard?

Jason, if you're looking for an antenna/amp combo from Maximum Signal, IMO the best is the "Rockies" combo package. You can use the Rockies for both cell phone and aircard (though not simultaneously). Hopefully Gordon can jump in and give his input.

Actually I can't dish out $250 for the combo package. Maybe just a really good antenna will do for now. The extra goodies can be purchased later on down the road.

What type of vehicle are you using in ? Our basic 5DB 13 inch magnetic mount is a great antenna for the money.

I was thrilled with the performance of my Sprint card (S720) on Sunday. We chased in what I would consider remote areas in SW and Central OK where I would never expect to get decent data coverage but not only did we have coverage, it was broadband!
Another killer feature of this card is the internal GPS rx'er. I was able to assign it to SpotterNetwork without conflict with all the other GPS-based crap I am running through my laptop on a typical chase day.
I ran a T-mobile card prior to this year. BIG difference.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I ran the data card with a Wilson amp and external antenna. Wilson has always done a good job for me.

For those of you on Verizon/Alltel, remember the Northwest Oklahoma data dead-hole (North of I-40 and west of say Hwy 81)? That is no more! I was very pleased to see that huge hole filled on the Alltel data map, and I can verify that there is indeed data access with Alltel in areas like Woodward, Buffalo, Alva, Fairview, etc.. About 90% of my typical chasing domain is now covered with data w/ combined use of Wilson external antenna.

01 Nissan Frontier is what I will be chasing in. Thanks for the info Gordon, I really appreciate it.

EDIT: Gordon, would the #16167 antenna be the one for me?

Can you get the Sprintcard as a standalone, without a voice plan? Also, are there any roaming charges, or is it a flat rate, no matter where you're at? Was thinking of adding a Sprint card, but don't want the voice plan to go along with it.

Thanks,
Van
