Thoughts on VOIP

Is VOIP permitted on some cellular providers?

I have an iPhone 3G and in the Terms and the App Store you are not allowed to use VOIP technology unless you are on WiFi.

I can see that VOIP would be a great technology for the cellphone! I would especially like seeing that!

The data caps are another problem also, even for downloading weather data...

Has anybody checked on the Verizon pre-paid phones to see what their like (coverage, and voice quality)?

Thanks,
Christopher Zenzel

We have used TeamSpeak while chasing with very good success. I run the instance on my web server and we just all connected to it while on the road. Worked great and distance was never an issue.

I have had success using Echolink (amateur radio VOIP) on my AT&T tethered connection. Every once and awhile there was a 'blip' that would cut out, but normal conversations were easy to hold along the interstate at least.

Not only could you make direct VOIP - VOIP connections, you could also dial-up potential SKYWARN nodes while on the road for more information.

Just a thought to play with...
