The South is HOTTTTTTTTT!

The AC here at the house is having trouble keeping up. The inside temperature is up to 80 now. The coolant isn't frozen either, cold air is still flowing out of the vents. Not unbearable, but slightly uncomfortable. I guess we need more insulation here. It does feel good after you come in from outside though, relatively speaking. The other issue is that my brother's dog keeps wanting to go outside, so I have to keep opening the door. She'd stay out there all afternoon if I let her. She has a black coat, I don't know how she can stand it.

I was considering shooting some video for TWC but it is too hot to bother especially with their lack of using video.

Yeah - same here. I'll stand out for a few hours getting drenched in a storm on spec, but no way for this heat! I'll let the TV station photogs do that :)

Another scorcher! Tomorrow is forecast to be 103, which would tie another record. The high today was 104...again, which ties the all time high. Now they are saying that it will "cool" down (93 on Saturday), then back up to 96-100 by Mon/Tue. **The temperature I took a picture of was in Clemson, SC this afternoon.

It's been in the upper 90's in my neck of the woods, with downtown Searcy reaching 101 and Little Rock in the low 100's today. The trend will continue until next Wednesday. I'm hoping that the long range GFS forecast pans out (from 240 hours onwards from now - Friday 0145Z) Cooling temps and possible precip and a good rain maker of possible tropical origin for the east coast / eastern GoM around the 21st-22nd.
I'm not holding my breath but it's a glimmer of hope :)

HA.....ITS ABOUT TIME YOU GUYS SAW WHAT ACTUAL HEAT IS....This summer has been so weird for North Texas. Wichita Falls set a record for the longest we have gone without hitting 100. Usually we have already had at least 30 days of 100 or more. I can recall one summer we had over 100 for 60 days or more and it didnt rain for 70 or more days.
Also the summer of 80 was just insane. Dont quote me but we had over 60 days I believe of over 100 and 14 days of 110 or more with also the all time record high of 117.
I can also recall one day Wichita Falls (around 1994?) hit 114 with a heat index of 136.....you couldnt breathe....walking accross the Wal-Mart parking lot and you could hear your shoes squish because either the blacktop or your shoes were melting....
This has been one of the "cooler" summers ive seen here and definately one of the wettest with the Wichita River setting a record for the highest flood stage ever....but the humidity has been bad..

I wonder why the USA doesn't sponsor solar energy big time. Putting a few panels on your house will turn already a part of the insolation into electricity instead of heat, much needed to reduce the need of fossil fuels (from dubious locations on the Earth) to supply 2500 W+ airconditioning systems running full time... some even to unnecessary chilly temperatures (77-80 F is already sufficient when dressed in summer clothing).

Little Rock reached an official high of 101oF yesterday and this morning the NWS altered their FCSTs a little bit to have any of us in the central AR area to be in the 100s for the next 4-5 days at least. July sure lulled us into a false sense of security with the excessively rainy days, storms all over the place and almost-cool, post frontal dry evenings. We fell into the trap on nonchalance and August She Is Pissed.

I remember five days of hell last July when the temps were in the 100s and the THIs were well into the 110s. I sure am glad we're in a house with central A/C this summer....

Living down a dirt road, the dry past two or three weeks are really starting to hurt now - you can't let one footstep fall else the entire garden is covered in dust and particulate.

Now is probably the time to start hoping that the tropics start to kick in.........at least for these landlocked Arkansans (apologies to the Gulf Coastal-ers!).

I don't know about "The South", but in the S Plains we've pretty much gotten away with one this year, as far as Summers go. It's gotten hot finally the past week or so, but June and July were a joke compared to normal. Even if we bake through September, we still win in 2007. Last year, on the contrary, was brutal.

I have no complaints in 2007 :-)

Oh totally agree - July over here was sweet compared to last summer's blast furnace. Add on living in an apartment with a semi-functioning window unit and you've got Five Days of Hell. I think I'd almost take this July's $500 electronics repair bill due to a chance lightning strike over last July's excessive heat warnings............

We have to ride out the next 7 days it looks like with little change - the ridge stays put or retrogrades to the west a little bit giving you guys in OK a fun time, too. But - in the latter half of August it looks like things may start to break down according to my crystal ball (GFS) - with the hint of a tropical system in the offing for Cuba if things are to be believed.

It HAS to cool off SOMETIME! This has been, (by far) the hottest 5 days in the history of the Upstae. (South Carolina) The highest recorded temperature EVER in Greenville, SC was 104. We hit 102 Tuesday, 104 Wednesday, 104 Thursday, and 105.1 Friday....another all-time new record. The low this morning was 81 where I live. The picture I took was between Clemson and Anderson. The Sandy Springs Water Department temperature read 107 about a mile from where I took the picture.

wow, I haven't experienced heat like this in a while...

I went Tarpon fishing today. When I woke up at 400AM the temp at the middle bay light house was 87. When I got there around 630AM in the boat, there was light fog. So what does that tell you about the Td? We were drenched in sweat as soon as we got out of the truck to launch the boat. Winds were light form teh north most of the morning, then around 1030, teh wind died. Dead calm. That's when it became very obvious that if we spent much more time out there we would be risking our health. I was getting a crampy stomach and a headache. We were well hydrated with plenty of cold water. so a little while later (and no fish...) we called it a day. Absolutely THE hottest day on Mobile Bay so far this year.... We're beat.

ALMOST RECORD SHATTERING

My hometown of Murfreesboro hit 112, shattering its old all-time record of 109. Nearby Smyrna(MQY) hit 111. Nashville(BNA) came close to breaking it's all-time record of 107. They hit 106 which is very impressive, and this is the hottest August ever so far, longest run of temp of 95, and over 90. Another 100 plus is likely today, then slacking to 98 tomorrow, then further down for Sunday. It looks like the heat wave is breaking. Plus, moisture from Erin could move that way, and we're all watching Dean to see what he does.

im about sick and tired of mississippi...there aint no AC at the house...and for the past week...its been nothing but hundreds, with heat indexes way up there...in this heat...you sweat...thats all there is too it...

we got fans runnin, but all it does is blow hot air around the house...when you get in the car is the worst...i dont know about yall, but i need it to be a certain temperature before i lay down at night...

if its too hot, i cant sleep...try layin awake at like 1am, and its over 90 in the house, and you have to keep rolling over because the sweat on your back and head soaks the sheets and pillows, that you have to turn over on your belly and let the sweat evaporate...

with heat like that...you end up tossing and turning all night and getting to bed in the AM hours and waking up around 7 or 8 because of the intense heat...

that ridge is getting out of control...im praying for a hurricane...it would do more good then harm at this point...

3 weeks straight now for Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport(KMQY) to be at or over 100 for some point during the day. The max was last week at 111. Nashville(KBNA) has maxed at 106 so far. Forecasted 104 tomorrow, this could get interesting. Hopefully, it appears it will break by next week, lets hope for good. Plus water restrictions are becoming major, especially for Franklin and Mt. Pleasant, TN. All unnecessary watering is banned, period, and if caught, your water is turned off!
