A[nother] general thread for sunsets and moon photos. Was in Arches NP and grabbed a few sunset silhouette pics. The partial moon was too high up to be practical but I shot it anyway ..

I still can't figure out how to put reasonably sized pics here in a forum post

Robert,

Create an imgur account and you can edit directly from the site to change the size of your image, then just link directly to imgur as opposed to uploading to stormtrack and you should be able to maintain a relatively decent sized image (that isn't overwhelmingly large). With that said, I am not usually one for sunsets but I had to get some shots of this sunset in the Panhandle last week.

This was a quick experiment in HDR time lapsing. It's an 80 frame animation, each frame is three exposures at different shutter speeds, merged in Enfuse.

Technique worked fairly well for the sunset scene, but for stormscapes I don't think you can shoot fast enough unless you're doing a whole supercell shot from a distance, and a slow moving one too.

I chased expecting it would likely be a bust. Saw some garden showers, one hail monster, and had a great time anyway. Caught a great sunset near Wiggins, CO. yesterday 7/10/13.

Not a sunset, but the sun is close to the horizon. Sunrise at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands on Nov 15 this year.

Nice. Like the style and the clouds cooperated quite well. Looks like it could have been touch and go there for a while hoping for some sky before the light fell off too much.

Monsoonal sunsets are a riot of shapes and colors and light. About all you can do is carry a camera and be ready to shoot whatever the sky throws at you. :) That said, this combination of clouds, light, and a hopefully interesting foreground is somewhat rarely encountered. I was out on a late night critter hike with a 'meetup' group, looking for snakes, toads, spiders, scorpions, cougars (the 4 legged variety!), and any other varmints that were out and about. The sunset was just the first 'catch' of the evening, we saw all manner of rattlers, a family of skunks, and even a bobcat.
