Streaming Question

Bob, since the EasyCAP is less than $20 why not give it a shot? The price is right and a lot of people, including me, are using it for their streaming.

I bought something similar to EasyCap a while ago to grab captures from my DVR..

StarTech SVID2USB2 USB 2.0 Video Capture Cable

I don't know how/if it works for Streaming, but I have found it very useful to capture video from my DVR straight to my computer which saves me a ton of time since I no longer have to capture to a video camera, then back out to a computer. It hooks directly up!

Again, not sure of its streaming abilities, but it works well for what I have been using it for and I thought I'd throw it out there in case it could work for you.

Startech works perfectly for streaming. I actually use two at a time, one for the forward cam and the second for a handheld backup cam. It costs a little more than some others but I've had no problems since switching to this device.

Thanks Skip. Your right. I picked one up on EBay for $9.00 so I will give it a try. Even though my laptop has an IR receiver built-in I have not been able to get it to pick-up my camera. I am guessing Sony is probably proprietary on that to.

Received the product from the seller on EBay. When I connected it to my PC and loaded the drivers it is not recognized period. Seems like a knock off. The seller has said they will refund the purchase but I will have to see on that.

Trying to decide if I should try again via an exchange. Order from another source (Amazon)or go with the Startech device?

Bob, do some Google searches for alternate drivers. I know depending on what version of the device you have and your operating system, finding ones that work can be tricky. Maybe there are some other folks on the board who have the drivers or links to them saved?

I had to do a couple of tweaks to get my EasyCap to work. First I had to go into my laptops device manager and clean out any USB devices that weren't really connected and then when installing the EasyCap I had to search on their CD explicitly for the right driver for my windows version (XP in my case).

As far as Easy Cap goes, mine arrived in the mail today. I am a TAD irked because it was shipped in a "Tuff Shield poly mailer" shipping envelope that has no padding, so the package was crushed some. The cd had some minor scratching and the provided extra USB cable suffered most of the damage, the ends were bent but I am sure they can be easily straightened. It is not a required piece of equipment thankfully..

I have not installed the video editing software that it came with (yet) since I have heard a LOT of bad things about it. I was messing with VLC some and it works, just has some colour issues. This whole camera to PC stuff is new to me completely..aside from the transferring digital cam pics and the usual webcam stuff. So far, it seems decent enough.

After some searching, I am convinced I am not alone in having trouble with this device. Is anyone using this with XP and service pack 3? I some posts where the writer mentioned they could not get the device to work past SP2. I tried the 1150 and 1160 drivers and still no joy. The device is simply not detected once it is plugged in after the driver is installed and a message stating "wait for Windows to enumerate device."
