I hope there was no post about it, but I just want to know if the project will be done after 2008 fall? I loved 2007's DVD, and maybe I could contribute for this year.. we'll see.

Storms of 2008

The Storms of series is one way for all of us chasers to give back to communities affected by natural disasters. For the past four years this project has gradually grown. At this point it has the potential to be even bigger than what we have seen in the past. However, now it could hit a road block.

I am unable to follow thru with my hopes and ambitions to better lead the 2008 project due to increasing work responsibilities. Last year was difficult with my schedule then and with the schedule if have now, well, leading it would be impossible. So it would be irresponsible for me to attempt to lead the 2008 project and would not benefit the cause or project in the end

So this is an official call for those of you who may wish to lead the Storms of 2008 project and beyond. If you are interested and would like to talk with me, you can contact me at the number below or simply PM me here on ST. If you would like to talk with Greg Stumpf I can get you in contact with him as well when we talk.

I would love to see this project survive and carry on because I really do think it is a positive thing that, even in small ways, helps. Even though you get no compensation monetary wise, it is well worth it in the end because you help people who needed help.

One of the most rewarding things I experienced with SO2007 and “Project Greensburg” was meeting and talking with those people who lived in Greensburg while we were visiting Greensburg and also at the Pratt, KS DVD showing. I was a wonderful feeling when many of them thanked us for putting this DVD together and more importantly helped with the warning process. That is a great feeling knowing that all the hard work you and all the other producers involved put into the project meant something to these people.

The future of this project depends on us chasers. So don’t be shy about jumping in. I am sure I speak for Greg, Jim as well as myself when I say that although you may lead the project we will always be here to help answer any questions and give guidance through the 08 project.

Lastly, since I am taking this step back from the project I do want to again thank all of you who help out on the 2007 DVD and also “Project Greensburg”. Bottom line; this would not have happened without you. So thank you all very much one last time.

Please disregard the grammar and spelling issues, so little time…

It all depends on whether the Storms Of monster can find a new head.

PLease see this post copied from the announcements:

I would love to do it but I am taking recertification medical boards this Fall. I have to take them every 10 years. Blah. It is really a worthwhile project. I do have alot of nice video especially May 23 to contribute if the project is done.

I'm not trying to put any pressure on anyone, but Brian Morganti is the first name that popped into my mind when conversations of a new lead producer started up.

2007 hope for 2008

The 2007 was very professionally done by all. Congrats, This was the only one I purchased and I would most certainly get 2008 . I would have video to contribute as well.

I know it is lots of work so I hope someone can take it. Perhaps there are 2 or 3 people that can shoulder it if that is possible?

I would love to help, but I can't lead. I'm a Canadian. A canadian cannot lead a US project without getting insults from the public, lol.

And I think this thing needs a well-known chaser, I'm not :)

I have decided to sticky this thread since people are starting to ask about it.

On a personal note, I really hope someone takes over this project. I have heard nothing but great things from people, both inside and outside the chasing community, about these DVDs. It's a great cause. It always gives me a thrill when I see my video and/or graphics on it.

From the chasing side, I have never seen any other DVD that chronicles an event by showing multiple angles of the same storm (with illustrations of chasers' positions) simultaneously and separately. I don't know how many times I've watched one of the past DVDs and gone, "Oh, that's what it looked like from (insert direction here)!"

I would offer to lead it, but I have no experience in these matters. If this project does get picked up, I will once again offer my services to attempt to whip up some snazzy Google Earth graphics.

If we were to nominate people I would nominate Dick Mcgowin. Hope I spelled it right. I don't kow him personally but the man can sure narrate really really good.:)

I bought Storms of 2007 and have lost track of how many times I've viewed it. Not to have a Storms of 2008 would be a real loss. I don't have skills to offer from the production side, but assuming someone does take the lead, I'd love to contribute in either or both of the following areas:
* Copywriting and editorial (it's what I do).
* Music. If you can hear a little sax in some of the sound tracks, I can supply it.

Besides the above, I've finally got a bit of video this year that might pass muster.

So if Storms of 2008 gets airborne, count me as a resource.

I realy enjoyed Storms of 2006. While I did not buy SO2007 due to money being tight last year I should beable to buy it and all of the other SO DvD's this year and I would realy like to see this project done for SO2008. I am sure someone on here is willing to give it a chance and remember all proceeds go to the American Red Cross so you're not just doing it for us but you're also doing it for the many people who count on the assistance/help of the American Red Cross after a natural disaster. This is to inportant to let go. With over 1000 members here someone needs to stand up and take over this project.

Perhaps there are 2 or 3 people that can shoulder it if that is possible?

That is exactly what I had planned before my work schedule got even busier. This project has grown large enough that one leader can not do everything that needs to be done. I did the best I could last year but it was a struggle.

This is what we had come up with when we got together in April and discussed the 08 project.

Instead of have one person lead, edit, author, design artwork, website, marketing, order fulfillment, accounting and so on…. We should divide these tasks up among people who would be willing to take on those areas of the project.

We would have the:

Management Team
· Project Director
· Project Producer

Production Team –

· Lead Editor – Edits and authors final DVD.
· Audio Editor – Normalizes individual chapter’s audio files.
· Chapter Editors / Producers – Individual Chapter Editors.

Administrative Team

· Accounting
· Order Fulfillment
· Website Design / Administrator
· Marketing and Research
· Sales

These are just some ideas.

This will first, make a much better production. Second, it will create a structure that a growing project like this needs. Last, takes all the burden of one or two men.

This DVD has a lot of room to grow. We took a few steps this year to go outside the scope of storm chasers and targeted / cater more to a wider range of potential viewers – the general public. The interest is there believe me. Why do you think there so many documentaries on this subject? Who better to tell the “real” story than us chasers? I can’t think of anyone. Can you?

So here is the deal. If anyone is interested in any of these positions, especially the Management Team and Production Team please let me know. I do not mind keeping my feet in the water as long as I have help as close to outline above. I want it to happen if we can.

Thanks

Mick

Moderators, I would suggest moving this thread to weather and chasing for better exposure. I think this is rather chase related.

I have been asked to expand on the outline I create the other day. Although this is not a complete list and won't be until we find a Lead Producer and Director(s) I hope it will give you a better idea.

Management Team

· Project Director– (s) (if more than one is needed)

  • Responsible for overall process, legal matters, and structure of the organization.

  • Responsible for seeing the project has monetary funds to start & keep running (Underwriters, donations and such)

  • Responsible for making public appearances (media, showings…).

· Project Producer

  • Responsible for overseeing the processes of the production team.

  • Responsible for setting overall guidelines for the production.

  • Responsible for finding and leading individual chapter producers and Audio Editor.

  • Responsible for strong and consistent communications means for the production team.

  • Responsible for making public appearances (media, showings…)

Production Team –

· Lead Editor – Edits and authors final DVD.

  • Responsible for editing, compiling video and normalized audio tracks to final video project.

  • Responsible final authoring of DVD.

  • Responsible for sending test masters to all producers for test viewing. Once complete and all is well, sending master to replication shop.

· Audio Editor – Normalizes individual chapter’s audio files.
NOTE: in 07 we took a professional approach to the audio editing.
This required us to use separate files such as the video audio, voice overs, and music. Once these files were gathered they would be compiled in a manner (normalized) that would not allow one audio track’s db level to become overbearing compared to the other two at any point in the final production.

  • Responsible for making sure that each chapter producer sends in the three separate audio files to you.

  • Responsible for normalizing audio files from each chapter and segment and compiling the final normalized audio into one file for the Lead Editor.

· Chapter Editors / Producers – Individual Chapter Editors.

  • Responsible for gather video for your chapter.
  • Editing that video for your chapter
  • Separating the three audio files from your final project.
  • Sending your final rendered files (Video and 3 - Audio files) to the Lead Editor.

Administrative Team

· Accounting – Responsible for the flow, and reporting of funds

· Order Fulfillment – Shipping… Responsible for shipping orders out in a timely manner.

· Website Design / Administrator – Responsible for creation and up keep of the website.

· Marketing and Research – Responsible for all marketing matters.

· Sales – Simple, finding business outside the online world.

If you feel you want to be a part of this project please feel free to contact me. Bottom line is that if a Lead Producer and a Production Team can not be found by 8-30-08 the 08 DVD will be no longer. Please, just because you think you are not a well known chaser you do not have something to offer this project. Nothing could be further from the truth. I was never a well know chaser before or after I took the lead in 07. It just does not matter in those regards. If you have something to offer this project please contact me.

Thanks,

Mick
