• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Storm Laboratory or Forecasting Handbook and Stormchasers Handbook?

The Storm Chasing Handbook will hopefully get updated in November.... but those dates tend to not be reliable.

BTW if you ordered over the weekend we'll be getting to it tomorrow (Tuesday); slight delay.

Hello,

About Storm Laboratory: Evan Bookbinder has StormLab - software for Nexrad data. Now I can offer only Meteos 1.1 - a software for running of WRF model under Windows. Before years it was for MM5 model.

Best regards,

Angel

Angel was clarifying the naming of his software. It's not StormLab, since Evan's radar software is called that.

I would like to get a copy of Tims updated version of the Storm Chasing Handbook once it has been completed. Please let me/us know when its done and also where we can order it. Thanks!

It's going to be at least 1 to 2 months before that's available. I would peg the release at either November 30 (before the holiday rush) or January 30 (before the conventions). If it doesn't get released by then, there will be a good reason.

I ordered the Forecasting Lab and have played around with it a bit. In fact, I've found it rather addictive. With the only hourly changes in the atmospheric models that I'm finding being in the surface maps, the radar, and the satellite (upper atmosphere maps and soundings all seem frozen at 12 Z), it forces me to extrapolate a lot, and to think ahead to what atmospheric conditions might be like hours in the future. This software could use some refinement, but as it stands, it's already helping me improve my forecasting skills and gain confidence in the skills I've already got.

This is not for beginners. Read the books first. But once you've read them, this can be a great adjunct to your learning, particularly during the off season. Speaking personally, the FL will be a fun and profitable preoccupation during the winter months.

I'm hoping to get that for Christmas now. I've been reading the forecasting book, but I think I will have to read it 5 times before I understand it fully! I was wondering if you could post a video of Forecast Laboratory, just so I (and anyone else who is interested) can see what it is like?

FL may not be what you're thinking, Derek. It's not anything you'd actually use on a chase day. It's a practice tool--a game of sorts--to help you sharpen your forecasting skills for the real thing.

Right, I figured it wasn't GRlevel3 or anything, but it would still be cool to see how it works, since I don't fully understand and all. Hope that clears it up, lol.
